The settlement resolves claims that Comcast failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures before the breach, although the company denies any wrongdoing. According to The Sun, Comcast agreed to the settlement to avoid the costs of continued litigation.

The lawsuit centers on a cybersecurity incident that occurred between October 16 and October 19, 2023. Comcast publicly disclosed the breach in December 2023 after determining that customer information may have been compromised.

Only individuals who received a notification by mail or email informing them that they were affected are included in the settlement. Those notices contained a Class Member ID, which is required to submit a claim through the settlement website or by mail.

Only Notified Customers Qualify for the Settlement

Eligibility is limited to people who received an official notification from Comcast stating that their personal information may have been involved in the October 2023 breach. The notice includes the Class Member ID needed to file a claim.

Individuals who cannot find their Class Member ID can use the lookup tool available through the settlement website or contact the Settlement Administrator using the online contact form. The administrator can also be reached by telephone at (833) 319-2401.

While the deadline to opt out of the settlement or file an objection expired on June 1, the deadline for submitting a claim remains August 14, 2026.

Documented Losses May Qualify for up to $10,000

Eligible class members who experienced financial losses connected to the data breach may claim reimbursement of up to $10,000 if they provide supporting documentation.

According to The Sun, eligible expenses include identity theft, fraud, credit expenses, credit monitoring costs, and communication charges. Claimants may also request compensation for up to five hours of lost time at a rate of $30 per hour.

Customers who do not submit proof of out-of-pocket losses may instead qualify for an alternative cash payment. The source reports that the current estimated payment is $50, although the final amount will depend on the number of valid claims submitted.

Identity Protection Services Are Included With Every Approved Claim

The settlement also provides three years of identity defense and restoration services through CyEx Financial Shield Complete for all claimants.

The package includes dark web monitoring, one-bureau credit monitoring, real-time authentication alerts, high-risk transaction monitoring, lost wallet protection, identity theft insurance of up to $1 million, and monthly credit score tracking.

The report also highlights other ongoing settlements. It states that some Flagstar Bank customers may qualify for payments of up to $599 following a separate data breach, while certain renters may be eligible for one-time payments of around $1,000 in a separate “landlord postcard” case.
