Buc-ee’s has confirmed that its locations across the United States no longer have publicly listed store phone numbers, ending a customer service option that many visitors previously used. The travel center chain said the move was made to keep employees focused on helping shoppers inside its busy stores.

The decision comes as Buc-ee’s continues expanding across the country, attracting large crowds of travelers, families, and road-trip visitors.

The company explained that calls were previously handled by cashiers, but the process created problems when employees had to step away from customers in the store. Buc-ee’s now directs questions, comments, and feedback through its online channels instead.

The change has generated discussion among customers who were accustomed to contacting individual locations directly. The company said the adjustment was designed around improving the in-store experience rather than limiting communication with shoppers.

Buc-ee’s Explains Why Store Phone Lines Were Removed

As reported by The Sun, Buc-ee’s addressed the decision in the frequently asked questions section of its official website, explaining that store phone service had become difficult to manage during busy operating hours.

“This is not a decision we made lightly,” Buc-ee’s wrote in the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section of its website.

The company added: “We previously had phones in the stores, which were answered by cashiers.”

Buc-ee’s explained that employees answering calls could affect service for people physically shopping at the locations. “When cashiers were on the phone instead of waiting on customers, this made the customers angry, so we thought it would be better to direct comments to the website,” the company explained further.

The policy change reflects a broader approach from the retailer, which has built its reputation around large stores, extensive food offerings, clean facilities, and a high-volume customer environment. With locations often serving heavy traffic, management decided that employee attention should remain focused on visitors inside the travel centers.

Customers who need assistance can now use Buc-ee’s online contact options instead of calling individual stores. The company continues to operate its growing network while adjusting its support systems to match the demands of its expanding customer base.

Other Buc-ee’s Policies Continue To Draw Attention

The removal of store phone numbers is not the only Buc-ee’s policy discussed by customers. The company has also faced attention over its merchandise return rules and other store guidelines.

According to Buc-ee’s published return policy, general merchandise cannot be refunded for cash after purchase. Instead, qualifying items may be exchanged under specific conditions.

“General Merchandise (except for game cameras) may be exchanged if in new condition and with all original tags, for General Merchandise (not gift cards) of equal or greater value,” the return policy reads.

The company also provides separate guidance for food purchases. “Slightly consumed food may be exchanged for the same item when the original item does not meet our standards.”

The policy means shoppers who purchase merchandise and later change their minds may need to select another product rather than receive money back through their original payment method. Store management approval is required for certain returns, adding another step to the process.

These rules have become part of the conversation surrounding Buc-ee’s customer experience as the company balances a large retail operation with policies designed to manage high visitor numbers.

Buc-ee’s Expansion Continues Across The United States

While the chain adjusts customer service procedures, Buc-ee’s remains focused on expansion. The company is preparing additional travel centers in multiple states as it continues building its national presence.

New locations are planned in at least 17 states in the coming years, extending the brand beyond its original regional footprint. The expansion has attracted strong interest from communities hoping to bring a Buc-ee’s travel center to their area.

Some planned projects have experienced delays, including one highly anticipated development that was recently pushed back by a year. The delay disappointed some residents who had been waiting for the opening.

The company’s rapid growth has increased the number of customers interacting with its stores, making operational decisions such as digital customer support more significant. Buc-ee’s continues to adjust its policies as it manages a growing network of large-scale travel centers.
