Amazon customers who experienced certain problems with returns or refunds could qualify for payments from a $309.5 million class-action settlement.

Who Could Qualify for the Amazon Settlement?

Not every shopper who made an Amazon return is eligible. The settlement covers specific customers who experienced an unsuccessful, delayed or incorrect refund, or who were charged again after returning an item.

The settlement covers customers who started a return or requested a refund for an Amazon purchase between September 5, 2017, and February 12, 2026. To qualify, a customer must generally have experienced one of the problems covered by the agreement.

This can include receiving no refund, receiving an incorrect or delayed refund, or receiving a refund and later being charged again for the returned product. Amazon has denied the allegations and has not admitted wrongdoing.

Some Customers Could Receive Payments Automatically

The settlement divides eligible customers into two subclasses. The majority of the settlement money is expected to go to Subclass A. These customers were affected by computer or payment-processing errors or by returns lost during transit, according to court documents.

People in Subclass A will not need to submit a claim form. Instead, once the settlement receives final court approval, eligible customers will be able to select their preferred payment method.

Other Customers Must File a Claim

Customers in Subclass B face a different process. They must submit a claim form by December 1 and provide evidence showing that they are more likely than not entitled to a payment.

This group covers customers who experienced failed refunds or later charges, but whose cases cannot be established through Amazon’s existing records alone.

Eligible Subclass B customers will receive a Notice ID and Confirmation Code in their settlement email. Those details are used when submitting a claim through the official settlement website.

Check Your Email and Spam Folder

Amazon customers who qualify are expected to receive an email notifying them about their settlement status.

Some customers have reported receiving notices in their spam folders, so checking both the main inbox and spam folder could be useful for anyone who believes they may be covered.

Consumers should be cautious with unexpected settlement messages and verify any notice through the official settlement website rather than clicking unfamiliar links.

Amazon Has Already Issued Other Refunds

The settlement follows other payments made by Amazon to customers affected by return and refund issues. According to the information provided, Amazon had already issued around $570 million in direct refunds to customers.

The company was also expected to provide another $34 million to shoppers with previously identified refund errors when the proposed settlement was announced.

Amazon said an internal review had identified a small group of returns where refunds had been issued before payment had successfully completed or where the company could not verify that the correct item had been returned.

Amazon Will Change Some Return Practices

As part of the proposed agreement, Amazon also agreed to changes involving its return procedures. The company has maintained that it did not engage in the wrongdoing alleged in the lawsuit.

The settlement is intended to resolve the claims without Amazon admitting liability. Eligible customers in certain subclasses are also entitled to a full refund plus interest, according to the settlement information cited in the report.

The Settlement Still Needs Final Approval

A federal judge granted preliminary approval of the settlement in August. The case is not fully concluded yet. A final settlement hearing is scheduled for March 16, 2027. The payment process and final distribution therefore remain subject to the court’s approval.

Amazon customers who believe they may qualify should check their email for an official notice and, if they belong to the group required to file a claim, submit the necessary documentation before the December 1 deadline.
