The Met Office is issuing crucial weather forecasts for the weekend and the celebrations on 5 November as bonfire night approaches.
Bonfire Night 2024: Will the Weather Spoil the Party? Here’s the Met Office’s Take
It is almost Guy Fawkes Night (Bonfire Night), and people from all over the UK are getting excited about the night of bangs and colourful flowers in the sky. Fans this year will participate in organised events in cities like London, Edinburgh and Swansea, as well as numerous parties in towns through the count.
Despite Bonfire Night’s official date being on a Tuesday, it is expected that most families will come together during the weekend to watch the spectacular displays. The pressing question remains: will the weather be favourable?
Weekend Weather Forecast: November 1-3
The Met Office gives the following outlook for the weekend: conditions are expected to remain settled, although cloud cover will dominate, especially in the south, with potential for patchy drizzle. Sunday is anticipated to bring more bright or sunny spells.
- Friday Night: Most of the UK will experience dry but cloudy conditions. Expect some light showers in northern England and the Scottish Borders, as well as parts of Northern Ireland like Armagh and Omagh. Temperatures will range from 8 °C to 4 °C in Scotland, while milder conditions will prevail in the south, reaching up to 13 °C in southern and south-eastern England. Wales and Northern Ireland will see similar temperatures, around 11 °C.
- Saturday Evening: The weather is likely to remain mostly dry, although southern and western Scotland may experience brief showers. Light rain could also affect south-west England, including Exeter and Plymouth. Temperatures will be slightly cooler, ranging from 7 °C to 10 °C in Scotland, and 9 °C to 13 °C elsewhere.
- Sunday: Forecasts suggest little to no rain, with only isolated showers in regions like the south-west coast of England and the Scottish Highlands. Temperatures will remain consistent, with highs of 11 °C in the south-west and lows of 7 °C in central Wales.
Although high pressure has kept winds light over recent days, a small low pressure system will push across the far north tomorrow
