State Fare Kitchen & Bar has closed two of its three restaurants in 2026, reducing the Texas-inspired dining brand to a single operating location after years of serving customers across the Houston area.
The closures have changed the restaurant’s presence in the region, removing longtime locations in Memorial City and Sugar Land while the company prepares a possible redesign of the brand.
State Fare Reduces Its Houston-Area Footprint
According to The Street, State Fare Kitchen & Bar closed its flagship restaurant at 947 Gessner Road Ste B 190 in Houston, Texas, on May 31, 2026, after 10 years of operation. The chain also closed its Sugar Land location at 15930 City Walk in January 2026 after six years in business.
Founded in 2016, State Fare Kitchen & Bar operates under Culinary Khancepts, a restaurant group known for creating dining concepts centered around food, drinks, and social experiences.
The brand built its identity around comfort food, drink flights, and a lively atmosphere designed for casual meals, gatherings, and celebrations. Before the closures, the restaurant operated three locations throughout the Houston area.
The remaining restaurant is located at 1900 Hughes Landing, Ste 200 in The Woodlands, Texas. The location opened in 2022 and now represents the entire active footprint of the brand.
State Fare Kitchen & Bar has not announced a specific reason for the closures. The shutdowns come as restaurant operators across the industry continue reviewing their locations and adjusting to changing market conditions.
Rising operating costs and shifts in consumer spending have created challenges for many restaurant businesses. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, prices for food away from home increased 3.4% over the 12 months ending in August 2026.
Culinary Khancepts Teases A New State Fare Experience
While the restaurant chain has closed most of its current locations, Culinary Khancepts has indicated that the State Fare Kitchen & Bar name could return in a different format.
The company has shared plans for a new 15,000-square-foot location described as a next-generation social dining destination. The proposed concept would include an updated menu and interactive features focused on games and shared experiences.
“This brand has always been about bringing people together and creating moments that guests remember,” Culinary Khancepts Founder and CEO Omar Khan said in a statement reported by CultureMap Houston.
“What’s coming next builds on everything people loved about State Fare, while taking the experience to an entirely new level.”
Culinary Khancepts said additional details about the planned location would be announced in the coming weeks. The company’s statements indicate that it intends to continue developing the brand despite the reduction in its current restaurant locations.
Restaurant Closures Continue Across The Industry
The changes at State Fare Kitchen & Bar reflect a wider pattern affecting restaurant brands in 2026, with several chains reducing their physical presence in certain markets.
Other restaurant closures reported during the year include On The Border Cantina Mexican Grill & Cantina, which closed its remaining locations in June, Gringos Locos, which shut down its Orlando-area restaurants in August, and Fuzzy’s, which closed its remaining Houston-area restaurants in September.
O’Charley’s also closed all company-owned restaurants nationwide in September after 55 years of operation.
Restaurant companies have continued evaluating store counts as customer habits, labor expenses, food costs, and local market conditions influence decisions about where to maintain locations.
For former State Fare Kitchen & Bar customers in Houston-area communities, the closures mean fewer nearby options for visiting the restaurant. The planned new concept could eventually expand the brand’s presence again, but the company currently operates only one location.
