Walmart has reannounced the recall of Mainstays nine-drawer fabric dressers after learning that some recalled products were distributed to consumers through liquidators after the original recall. The affected dressers were recalled because they can become unstable when they are not anchored to a wall, creating a risk of tip-over and child entrapment.
The recall involves about 165,250 units, including approximately 165,000 dressers that were part of an earlier recall announced in May 2026. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the dressers do not meet the mandatory safety requirements for clothing storage units established under the STURDY Act.
Recalled Dressers Were Sold Nationwide and Later Distributed Through Liquidators
The recalled products are Mainstays-branded nine-drawer fabric dressers with a black metal frame and nine brown or black fabric drawers. The units measure about 40 inches long, 13.75 inches wide and 45 inches tall, and weigh approximately 32 pounds.
According to the CPSC, the dressers were manufactured between September 2023 and December 2025. A label located under the dresser’s top panel identifies the tracking or lot number and the manufacturing date in month/year format. The product order receipt and packaging identify the item as “Mainstays 9-Drawer Fabric Dresser.”
The dressers were sold at Walmart stores across the United States and online at Walmart.com from September 2023 through March 2026 for about $80. The CPSC said some recalled units were later sold to consumers through liquidators, including OMG California Community of Riverside, California; Threads of Fenton of Fenton, Michigan; Golden Cone Electronic, Inc. of Elkhart, Indiana; and ReturnPro of Miami, Florida.
The reannouncement is intended to reach consumers who may have purchased the dressers through those liquidators after the initial recall. No injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with the recalled products, according to the CPSC.
Consumers Advised to Stop Using Affected Dressers and Request Refunds
The recalled dressers are considered unstable if they are not secured to a wall. The CPSC said this condition creates tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in serious injuries or death to children. According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately stop using the dressers if they are not anchored to the wall. They should move the products to an area that children cannot access and contact Walmart to receive a full refund.
Consumers seeking a refund will be asked to return the drawers to any Walmart store. The dresser frames should be disposed of according to local and state regulations, the recall notice states.
Walmart is providing assistance through its customer service line at 800-925-6278, available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central Time Monday through Friday. Information is also available through Walmart’s help website and its corporate recall page. The recalled dressers were manufactured by Hop Thang Interior Wood Co. Ltd. of Vietnam and sold by Walmart Inc., based in Bentonville, Arkansas. The CPSC listed the recall under number 26-726.
