Costco is opening seven new warehouses across the United States this August, giving shoppers in several states access to new locations as the retail giant continues its aggressive expansion strategy.

The new stores will extend Costco Wholesale’s reach in major markets including Texas, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Georgia, and Missouri. The openings arrive as the company continues investing in store growth, membership expansion, and technology upgrades designed to improve the shopping experience for millions of customers.

Costco’s Latest Warehouse Expansion

According to The Sun, Costco has confirmed that seven new locations are scheduled to open across the country during August. The new warehouses will welcome members in Albany, New York; Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; Otsego, Minnesota; Stone Mountain, Georgia; Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Mansfield, Texas; and Celina, Texas.

The expansion gives Texas two new Costco locations at the same time, strengthening the company’s presence in one of its fastest-growing markets. The state has become a major focus for retailers due to population growth, new residential developments, and rising consumer demand.

A separate warehouse is also planned for Camarillo, California, though that location is expected to open later in the autumn rather than during the August launch period. The additional store will continue Costco’s effort to bring its warehouse model to more communities.

The company’s expansion reflects the popularity of its membership-based approach, where customers pay an annual fee in exchange for access to discounted bulk products, exclusive deals, and a wide range of merchandise.

New Costco Warehouses Expand Access for Millions of Members

The latest openings are part of Costco’s broader plan to increase its physical presence across the U.S. The company operates more than 650 warehouses in the United States, alongside international locations in several other countries.

Each new warehouse creates a new shopping destination for local residents looking for groceries, electronics, household products, furniture, and other bulk items. Costco’s business model relies on high-volume sales, strong membership loyalty, and competitive pricing across a wide selection of categories.

The retailer has developed a dedicated customer base by offering products that range from everyday essentials to seasonal items and limited-time offers. Many members are drawn to the combination of large package sizes, exclusive brands, and rotating inventory that changes frequently.

The new locations also bring economic activity to the communities where they open. Warehouses require employees, suppliers, logistics support, and local services, creating a wider impact beyond the store itself.

The August openings show that Costco continues to prioritize physical retail growth even as online shopping becomes a larger part of consumer behavior. The company’s warehouse format remains a key part of its identity and long-term strategy.

Costco Tests Faster Checkout Technology Across U.S. Warehouses

Alongside its store expansion, Costco is also updating the checkout process at selected U.S. warehouses. The retailer is testing new Automated Pay Stations designed to make transactions faster for members.

The system uses large digital screens and additional space to help shoppers scan and pay for larger items more efficiently. The goal is to reduce waiting times while keeping employees involved in the checkout process.

At some locations, employees help speed up the process by scanning a customer’s membership card before the shopper reaches the payment area. Staff members then scan items in the cart while customers remain in line.

Once shoppers arrive at the payment station, their merchandise appears on the screen, allowing them to complete payment quickly. Costco says this approach can reduce checkout times to around eight seconds for participating customers.

The technology update reflects a wider effort by retailers to improve convenience while maintaining service quality. For Costco, faster checkout systems could help manage increasing customer traffic as more warehouses open nationwide.

The company is balancing expansion with operational improvements, aiming to make new and existing locations easier to navigate for its growing membership base.
