Canned Soup Recall Affects 27 States
The voluntary recall involves 15,350 cases of Amy’s Organic Lentil Soup – Light in Sodium, representing more than 184,000 cans. The affected products were distributed across 27 US states and Canada and were sold through major retailers including Walmart, Kroger and Albertsons.
The recalled products were shipped to Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
Packaging Defect Raises Spoilage Concerns
According to Amy’s Kitchen, the issue affects the cans’ easy-pull tabs, which contain a manufacturing defect. The company said the defect could cause the soup to spoil and decided to issue the recall as a precautionary action. The affected products have the lot number 60D0924 and a best-by date of April 2027.
Consumers who have purchased the product are advised to check the can information before consuming it and follow the instructions provided by the company or retailers.
FDA Classifies Recall as Class II
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall as a Class II recall on July 14. The FDA defines a Class II recall as a situation where use of or exposure to a product could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, or where the probability of serious health effects is considered low.
The classification means that the product presents a potential safety concern, although the risk of severe consequences is limited.
