Costco has issued a series of nationwide recalls involving both consumer products and food items, including warnings tied to potentially fatal hazards. The recalled items include aboveground pools and packaged snacks, with risks ranging from drowning to life-threatening allergic reactions. These recalls affect Costco members across the United States.

According to Newsweek, several of the products under recall were distributed over a multi-year period and sold through various Costco locations. The nature of each recall varies by product type and manufacturer, and in most cases, corrective actions or refunds have been initiated. Additional details have been published through official recall announcements.

Pura Diffuser Cover Recall Due to Magnet Ingestion Hazard

On July 25, Pura launched a voluntary recall for specific Pura 4™ diffusers sold by Costco, citing a hazard linked to detachable internal magnets. The magnets may separate from the diffuser’s front cover over time and pose a serious ingestion risk if swallowed—particularly for children or pets.

The company stated:

We advise customers to remove and safely discard the current cover, and to keep the diffuser out of reach of children and animals while awaiting the replacement.

Consumers can check if their diffuser is affected and request a free replacement cover at pura.com/pages/productrecall. For direct assistance, they may also call 855-394-5292 or email [email protected].

Bestway Recalls Pools Over Compression Strap Drowning Hazard

On July 21, Bestway, in collaboration with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), recalled select aboveground pools sold between 2008 and 2024, including through Costco from 2017 to 2024. The affected models include:

  • Power Steel
  • Steel Pro
  • Coleman Power Steel

The recall applies to 48-inch and taller pools with external compression straps, which children may use as footholds to climb into the pool unsupervised—creating a significant drowning hazard.

Impacted item numbers sold through Costco include 1099149, 1179351, 1274360, and others listed in the official recall notice. Pools with internal straps or those under 48 inches in height are not affected.

Customers should check strap placement and request a free repair kit at bestwayusa.com/recall-and-safety. Additional support is available at 844-593-4003 or via email at [email protected].

Intex Recalls Older Pool Models With Similar Drowning Risks

Also on July 21, Intex Recreation announced a recall of specific 48″ and 52″ Metal Frame and Ultra Frame pools sold between 2002 and 2012. Like the Bestway models, these pools feature external compression straps that children can use as footholds, increasing the risk of unsupervised access and drowning.

Intex emphasized that all pools manufactured from 2013 onward are not affected, as they employ an internal strap system to mitigate the hazard.

Customers should determine if their pool is affected by visiting www.Intexcorp.com/recall or calling 1-800-549-8829. Intex recommends that users follow the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Pool Safely guidelines and restrict pool access or drain the pool until the repair is completed.

Mislabeling of Ritz Crackers Raises Allergy Alert

On July 10, Mondelēz Global initiated a voluntary recall of 40-count cartons of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches, distributed at Costco Warehouses and Business Centers between June 2 and July 9, 2025. The issue stems from individual cracker packs that are incorrectly labeled as the cheese variety, despite containing peanut butter.

The outer cartons are correctly labeled with allergen warnings for peanuts, but the internal mislabeling could lead to accidental ingestion by individuals with peanut allergies, posing a severe risk.

Affected products can be identified by Best When Used By dates ranging from November 1, 2025, to January 22, 2026, printed on the top of the outer carton.

National Safety Monitoring and Consumer Guidance

According to the FDA, foodborne illness outbreaks and unsafe consumer goods continue to rank among the leading causes of preventable hospitalizations and injuries in the U.S.

This series of recalls underscores the importance of vigilant product safety monitoring. Costco maintains a dedicated recall webpage where consumers can find updates and guidance on returning or repairing affected items.
