Thousands of Americans could receive compensation following a significant data breach at FloridaCentral Credit Union, a financial institution serving over 200,000 members. According to reporting by The Sun, hackers accessed sensitive customer information through the credit union’s email system on May 16, 2024, exposing data such as Social Security numbers and bank details.

In response, FloridaCentral agreed to settle a lawsuit without admitting wrongdoing but committed to providing payouts and support to affected customers. Individuals impacted by the breach must file their claims by June 2, 2025, to be eligible for payments or additional services related to the incident.

Details of the Floridacentral Data Breach and Settlement

The breach exposed private information, including Social Security numbers and bank account details. FloridaCentral Credit Union, which serves over 200,000 members, has not admitted wrongdoing but agreed to a settlement to resolve the claims.

Under the agreement, eligible customers can claim a flat payment of about $100 if they experienced no major losses. Those who suffered documented damages—such as identity theft, fraudulent charges, or costs for credit monitoring—may apply for payouts of up to $5,000.

In addition to compensation, FloridaCentral is offering three years of free credit monitoring for all affected members. This includes dark web scans, monitoring of one credit bureau, identity theft insurance coverage up to $1 million, and full support for identity recovery.

Key Deadlines and Court Proceedings

Affected individuals had until May 16, 2025, to opt out of or object to the settlement, which has now passed. Claims must be filed by June 2, 2025, to receive any payment or benefits. A final court hearing is scheduled for June 16, 2025.

Alongside this case, other settlements are providing compensation:

  • The Cowboy Channel settlement involves claims that it improperly shared subscriber information, violating the Video Privacy Protection Act.
    Claimants in this case will receive payments without needing to submit evidence.
  • Mazda vehicle owners affected by a defective infotainment system may be eligible for reimbursements up to $1,750 and receive a 24-month limited warranty extension.
    This settlement addresses issues with Mazda Connect systems causing screen freezes, system reboots, and crashes during driving.

Americans affected by these events are encouraged to review eligibility requirements carefully and submit claims within the specified deadlines to access available benefits.
