The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated its warning regarding the recall of more than 2.4 million cases of MadeGood granola bars, urging consumers to take the issue seriously due to potential health risks.

Metal Contamination Behind Massive Recall

The recall, initially announced on December 9, was voluntarily issued by Riverside Natural Foods Inc., the Chicago-based parent company of MadeGood, after it received multiple complaints about the presence of metal pieces in its products. The company identified the source of contamination as small, flat brush bristles used during the manufacturing process.

No injuries have been reported so far, but the FDA recently classified the recall as “Class II”, meaning the affected products could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects if consumed.

Which Madegood Products Are Affected?

The recall includes several flavors of granola bars produced between January and November 2024, and distributed across the United States, Canada, and other international markets.

Affected products:

  • Chocolate Chip Granola Bars
  • Mixed Berry Granola Bars
  • Strawberry Granola Bars
  • Cookies & Crème Granola Bars
  • Chocolate Banana Granola Bars
  • Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake Granola Bars
  • Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble Granola Bars
  • Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla Granola Bars

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to check their packaging against the recall list.

What to Do If You Have a Recalled Product

Anyone with an affected product can return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

For additional information, customers can contact MadeGood’s Consumer Hotline at 855-215-5695 (available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST) or visit the MadeGood website.

Madegood Responds to the Contamination Issue

The company stated that it has already addressed the manufacturing issue and has worked with retailers to remove all impacted products from shelves.

“We have corrected the issue and are conducting this voluntary recall with the full knowledge of regulatory authorities,” MadeGood said in a statement.

The risk of serious harm remains low, but the FDA’s classification underscores the importance of removing these products from circulation to prevent any potential health consequences.
