A Birmingham mother-of-one has fallen victim to a cunning scammer who posed as a lottery winner and offered to help her. Dympna McKenna believed she was in touch on Facebook with Richard and Debbie Nuttall, who had won £61 million in the EuroMillions lottery.

The 47-year-old, who is a full-time carer for her ten-year-old autistic daughter, opened up about her financial problems in an attempt to pay off her £7,000 debt. The scammers told her they would provide her with financial assistance.

However, Dympna quickly realised that the conversation was not authentic, but persisted in her efforts to find out more. Today, she is working to raise awareness so that people don't fall victim to similar scams.

Asked for credentials, she said: "They asked me for credentials. You would spend your money". Fortunately, Dympna didn't fall for it, but she thinks others might have.
