US Issues Urgent Warning on Croquettes: Hidden Allergens Pose Risk

A health alert has been issued for frozen ham croquettes in the US due to the presence of undeclared allergens, soy and sesame. The warning comes after an inspection found the ingredients were not listed on the product labels, posing a risk to allergy sufferers. The croquettes, distributed in Florida, are no longer available for purchase.

A health warning has been issued across the United States regarding a batch of frozen ham croquettes, after the products were found to contain undeclared allergens. The croquettes, produced by Croquetas La Mary LLC, pose a risk to consumers with allergies to soy and sesame, two ingredients that were not listed on the packaging.

The alert, released by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), has raised concerns about potential health risks. Although no illnesses have been reported so far, the FSIS has urged consumers to discard or return the products to ensure their safety.

Mislabelled Products: A Risk for Allergy Sufferers

The problem was identified during a routine inspection of Croquetas La Mary LLC’s plant. The FSIS discovered that the company had used a different breadcrumb ingredient than originally intended, inadvertently incorporating soy and sesame.

According to the FSIS, these ingredients are both common allergens, and their presence was not indicated on the product labels.

The affected ham croquettes were produced in April and May 2025, and are marked with expiration dates spanning November 2025 to January 2026. The products, sold in 1.96-pound boxes, feature the description “a taste of Cuba croquetas de jamón” and contain 30 units per box.

These frozen croquettes are not shelf-stable or fully cooked, requiring proper handling before consumption. The products were distributed in Florida, where the company is based.

Despite the discovery, a recall has not been issued as the affected batch is no longer available for purchase. The FSIS confirmed that there have been no reports of illnesses related to the mislabelled products, but it issued the health alert to prevent any potential allergic reactions among consumers.

What Consumers Need to Know

Consumers who purchased the affected products are urged to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. The FSIS has taken this precautionary step to protect the public, particularly individuals with soy and sesame allergies.

According to the FSIS, this public health alert is issued to “ensure that consumers with allergies to soy and sesame are aware that this product should not be consumed.”

This alert highlights a growing concern over food mislabelling in the US, following a similar incident last month, when Hearthside Food Solutions LLC recalled nearly 500,000 pounds of breakfast sandwiches due to undeclared sesame.

Consumers with concerns about their health after consuming the affected croquettes are advised to consult a doctor. For further inquiries, the company can be contacted directly.
