The new Lloyds rate replaces a previous offer of 2.75%, giving eligible businesses a fixed return on money set aside for future use.

Lloyds Sets Out Conditions for Its 4.01% Business Savings Account

According to Lloyds Bank, the Fixed Term Deposit Account requires an initial deposit of at least £10,000, with a maximum permitted balance of £5 million. Governor Andrew Bailey warned that a prolonged Middle East conflict could increase the risk of inflation becoming embedded in the economy, potentially requiring further interest rate rises.

According to the Daily Express, Bailey said the latest increase should not be interpreted as the beginning of an unavoidable series of rises. He also cautioned that further increases remained possible unless the conflict was resolved.

The wider economic pressures are also affecting Britain’s housing market. Lloyds reported that average UK house prices fell by 1.2% annually in October, their largest yearly decline since October 2023. The average property price reached £296,285, representing a monthly fall of £1,882, or 0.6%, compared with September.

Andrew Asaam, mortgages director at Lloyds, attributed weaker housing demand partly to renewed inflationary pressures, rising energy costs and the continued strain on household finances.

He said conditions were likely to remain subdued in the near term, although Lloyds did not expect a sustained period of falling property prices. The bank pointed to wages rising faster than house prices as a factor that could gradually improve affordability.

Lloyds has introduced a 4.01% fixed interest rate for business customers depositing surplus funds into a new 13-month savings account.
