Their closure has also left creditors facing substantial losses, with administrators warning that unsecured creditors are unlikely to recover any money.

All Employees Made Redundant Following Months of Administration

According to Insider Media, administrators Chris Pole and Will Wright of Interpath have confirmed that all employees at Westbridge Furniture and Belfield Leisure have now been made redundant, bringing an end to a controlled winding-down process that began in March.

Westbridge, based in Holywell, Flintshire, manufactured sofas and upholstered furniture for major British retailers, including Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Next Home. The company employed approximately 300 people, while Belfield Leisure, headquartered in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, had around 200 employees supplying soft furnishings to the UK leisure market.

Both businesses initially continued limited operations after administrators were appointed. This arrangement allowed outstanding customer orders to be completed while administrators worked to recover funds and manage the companies’ remaining assets.

A small number of employees were retained to assist with administrative duties, including collecting outstanding customer payments. Those remaining staff members have since been dismissed.

The businesses had been incorporated in February 2025 following the acquisition of assets from Westbridge Furniture Designs and Belfield Furnishings through a pre-pack transaction.

Westbridge subsequently experienced operational disruption that proved more damaging than initially anticipated. The loss of a major customer and weak trading in early 2025 placed further pressure on its cash flow.

Belfield Leisure faced separate difficulties as fragile consumer confidence affected the wider leisure market. Despite cost reductions and recovering market share, the company struggled to return to break-even and required additional capital to meet short-term financial obligations.

Westbridge Furniture and Belfield Leisure collapse leaves 504 employees redundant ©Canva

£13.9 Million in Liabilities Leaves Creditors Facing Losses

The financial consequences of Westbridge’s collapse have become clearer following the publication of administrators’ progress reports.

According to TheBusinessDesk, Westbridge Furniture’s statement of affairs recorded approximately £13.9 million in total liabilities, including around £5.7 million owed to secured lenders.

Virgin Money, operating through Clydesdale Bank, was owed approximately £2.5 million, while Blandford Security Limited held a further £3.2 million in secured debt.

Administrators recovered approximately £2.8 million in outstanding customer payments. A short period of continued trading generated £682,591 in sales, while stock disposals raised £73,926.

Intellectual property, including furniture designs and technical specifications, was sold for £168,500. Another £7,200 came from the sale of a vehicle, with remaining machinery disposed of through an online auction.

Despite these recoveries, the outlook for creditors remains poor.
