The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that State Pension payments will follow their usual schedule in November, giving pensioners one final month without bank holiday adjustments before December’s Christmas disruptions.

Recipients of both the new State Pension and basic State Pension will receive their payments according to the established four-week cycle, with no changes to the regular payment days in November, according to Birmingham Live.

The day each pensioner receives their money depends on the final two digits of their National Insurance number. The DWP uses the following schedule:

These codes determine the usual weekday for payment, not a weekly payment frequency. State Pension payments are normally made every four weeks.

December brings a different arrangement because Christmas bank holidays can affect when payments reach bank accounts. Pensioners whose scheduled payment dates fall on a bank holiday may receive their money earlier.

People claiming their State Pension for the first time may follow a different timetable before settling into the regular four-week payment cycle.

The DWP said:

“You’ll be asked when you want to start getting your State Pension when you claim. Your first payment will be no later than 5 weeks after the date you choose. You’ll get a full payment every 4 weeks after that.

“You might get part of a payment before your first full payment. The letter confirming your State Pension payment will tell you what to expect.

“The day your pension is paid depends on your National Insurance number. You might be paid earlier if your normal payment day is a bank holiday.”

This means the date of an initial payment may differ from the regular schedule. The confirmation letter sets out the claimant’s payment arrangements.

While the payment schedule determines when money arrives, the amount a person receives depends largely on their National Insurance record.

Financial services provider Royal London advises:

“The amount of State Pension you get depends on your National Insurance record. Most people under State Pension age typically pay National Insurance contributions on any earned income they receive.

“But if you don’t pay National Insurance you may get National Insurance credits which will count towards your National Insurance record. For example, you may get National Insurance credits if you’re claiming state benefits because you’re ill or unemployed, or if you’re claiming Child Benefit for a child under 12 years of age.

“You’ll get a proportion of the new State Pension if you have between 10 and 35 qualifying years. A qualifying year is when you’ve earned a certain amount by working or receiving certain state benefits.”

National Insurance credits can therefore help people build qualifying years during periods when they are not working or paying contributions.

The rules differ depending on when someone reached State Pension age.

Royal London explains:

“If you reached your State Pension age before 6 April 2016 (that’s men born before 6 April 1951 and women born before 6 April 1953), different rules apply.

“Here, you’ll get the old basic State Pension. You can find out more about what you’ll get if you reached your State Pension age before 6 April 2016.”

People who reached State Pension age on or after April 6, 2016, generally fall under the new State Pension system, while those who reached it earlier remain under the older rules.

Both groups follow the DWP’s regular payment arrangements, with the final two digits of their National Insurance number determining their usual payment weekday.

The DWP has confirmed November State Pension payment arrangements ahead of the Christmas bank holiday period.

[1

post-128285","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33","no-featured-image-padding
["GET
November State Pension Payments Will Follow the Usual Schedule
