The programme involves reviewing stores that no longer meet the company’s expectations for customer experience or financial performance.

Starbucks said it intended to close locations where it could not provide the physical environment customers wanted or maintain sustainable profitability. Company executive Brian Niccol previously told employees that stores unable to offer a welcoming setting or achieve financial targets would be considered for closure.

The changes have also raised concerns about employment, with staff at affected UK locations potentially facing redundancy. According to the Daily Express, a Starbucks branch on High Street in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, also closed on 26 October 2026, ending a decade of trading in the town.

A notice displayed at the premises informed customers of the closure and thanked them for their support over the previous 10 years. Starbucks has around 1,300 outlets across the UK, including approximately 520 company-owned stores. The company employs more than 5,600 people in its directly operated UK business.

For employees at the former Jubilee Street branch, Starbucks has confirmed that alternative positions have been arranged locally.
