UKTV, the BBC-owned broadcaster behind the channels, plans to introduce the additions before the end of 2026, although an exact launch date has not been confirmed.

Twelve Channels Will Bring Popular BBC Programs to Freely

Eight of the 12 channels will focus exclusively on individual BBC programs, offering viewers access to hundreds of episodes through scheduled broadcasts. The lineup includes Antiques Roadshow on U, Bargain Hunt on U, Casualty on U, DIY SOS on U, EastEnders on U, Gardeners’ World on U, Holby City on U, and Top Gear on U.

Each channel will operate under the Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST) model, which combines scheduled programming with commercial breaks. Unlike traditional television broadcasts, these channels reach viewers through an internet connection rather than an aerial or satellite dish.

The programming will include older episodes and selected moments from the shows’ histories. The EastEnders channel, for example, will revisit storylines from the mid-2000s, including the arrival of the Branning family and the relationship involving Bradley, Stacey, and Max.

Top Gear will feature more than two decades of episodes, including the Patagonia and Polar specials. Meanwhile, Holby City will revisit episodes from the medical drama, which ended in March 2022 after 23 series. Four existing UKTV streaming channels will also become available on Freely. These are U&Laughs, U&Transport, U&Real Heroes, and U&The Past, which were previously introduced to Virgin Media customers.

According to Cord Busters, all 12 channels will also join LG Channels, the free streaming television service available on compatible LG smart TVs. UKTV is discussing potential distribution arrangements with other platforms.

View this post on Instagram

Freely Expands Access Through Smart TVs and Streaming Devices

Freely launched in April 2024 as a broadband-based alternative to conventional television reception. Operated by Everyone TV, the organization behind Freeview and Freesat, it brings live channels from major British broadcasters into a single television guide.

The platform surpassed two million monthly users in July, according to figures reported by Everyone TV. Freely is built into selected smart televisions from manufacturers including Hisense, Panasonic, Toshiba, TCL, Philips, and Sharp. Viewers with other televisions can access the service through compatible external devices.

These include the Netgem PLEIO, a 4K streaming device supporting Freely and other applications, and the Manhattan Aero, another 4K device incorporating TiVo OS. Manual updates can also be checked through the television guide’s settings menu.

For televisions receiving channels through an aerial, a rescan may be necessary to refresh the available channel lineup. UKTV has confirmed that the 12 channels will begin arriving before the end of 2026 but has not specified whether they will launch simultaneously. Their positions within Freely’s television guide have also yet to be announced.

Millions of television viewers across the United Kingdom will soon have access to 12 additional channels through Freely, the internet-based television platform developed by Everyone TV.
