Founded in April 2016, Novel Wines built its business around bottles <\/strong>from less familiar wine-producing regions and independent producers. Its range included wines from countries such as Hungary, Croatia and India, giving customers alternatives to more widely available labels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The retailer also operated a physical shop in Bath <\/strong>between 2019 and 2024. After closing the store, Novel Wines shifted its attention towards wholesale customers and online sales, but the company has now entered liquidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liquidators Appointed as Online Sales Stop<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Richard Cole and Stephen Kenny of KBL Advisory Limited were appointed as joint liquidators on 18 September. According to The Gazette<\/a>, their appointment was formally recorded in a notice concerning the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Novel Wines had described itself as an \u201caward-winning wine merchant specialising in lesser-known quality wines and spirits<\/em>\u201d. The Herald <\/a>reported that the business also referred to itself as \u201cthe UK\u2019s leading independent retailer of undiscovered wines\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its website no longer allows customers to browse or buy bottles. Instead, visitors are presented with a holding page stating that the company is making changes to its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re just making a few quick changes to the website so it\u2019s much easier for you to shop for great wines<\/em>,\u201d the message reads. Customers are directed to an email address, with the website saying that the team remains available to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are signs, though, that key members of staff have already departed. According to GB News<\/a>, automated responses confirmed that managing director Will Hill and South West area manager Adam Lever had both left Novel Wines. The Herald similarly reported that when Newsquest contacted the email address listed on the website, both respondents confirmed they were no longer with the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a Bath Shop to Wholesale and Online Sales<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Novel Wines opened its only physical store in Bath in 2019. The shop <\/a>remained in operation for five years before closing in 2024 as the retailer concentrated on wholesale expansion and online business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Harpers<\/a>, the Bath closure formed part of that shift towards wholesale and internet sales. Novel Wines continued selling bottles sourced from craft winemakers and shipping them to customers around the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its activities went beyond individual wine sales. The retailer ran an Explorer\u2019s Club subscription service aimed at \u201ccurious drinkers\u201d interested in discovering wines they might not otherwise encounter. The Express<\/a> reported that it remains unclear what will happen to subscribers following the company\u2019s move into liquidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Novel Wines also organised tasting events for customers, including a spring-themed wine evening held last year. These events sat alongside its focus on bottles outside the more familiar selections commonly encountered by UK consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s liquidation follows the closure of its Bath shop two years earlier and the subsequent focus on wholesale and online operations.
