Aldi is creating 120 jobs as it opens four new stores across the UK during September, with branches launching in locations including Solihull, Telford, Rayleigh and London. The expansion forms part of the supermarket chain’s £370 million investment in new stores this year. The retailer says the openings will bring its stores closer to more communities while creating new employment opportunities.

One of the four new branches has already opened, with Aldi welcoming shoppers to its Balsall Common store near Solihull on 3 September. Three further stores are scheduled to open during the month, with each location expected to provide up to 30 jobs.

According to Aldi, the next opening will take place at Waterloo Road, Ketley Point, Telford, on 10 September. A third store will follow at Weir Retail Park in Rayleigh, Essex, on 17 September, before the final September opening arrives at Hackney Road, Hoxton, London, on 20 September.

The new locations are part of Aldi’s wider store growth programme in the UK. The supermarket has stated that it wants to continue expanding its presence and has a long-term ambition to operate 1,500 stores across the country.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said the company was responding to demand from communities that want access to its stores. “We know there are still communities across the country that want access to an Aldi store, and we are working hard to bring our unbeatable value to more of them,” Neale said.

The September openings continue Aldi’s development as one of the UK’s major supermarket retailers. According to Aldi, the company now operates more than 1,080 stores across the country and employs more than 43,000 colleagues. The retailer began with its first store in Essen, Germany, in 1913, before opening its first UK shop in 1990. Since then, Aldi has expanded its network of stores and workforce across the country.

The company said that opening a new store every week throughout September reflects the pace of its current expansion plans. The new branches are also expected to provide shoppers with access to Aldi’s range of affordable food products.

According to Aldi, the latest store openings are designed to support local communities through both retail access and job creation. The supermarket has not provided further details about future individual store locations beyond its wider ambition to increase the number of branches it operates.

With four new stores opening during September, Aldi’s latest investment programme continues its push to increase its presence across the UK. The company’s growth plans combine new retail sites with additional employment opportunities in the areas where the stores open.

Aldi is continuing its UK expansion with four new stores planned for September, creating new jobs as the supermarket grows its network across the country.
