According to Royal Mail’s official service update, no letters or parcels will be collected or delivered across most of the country on Monday. The pause follows normal weekend operations on Saturday, 29 August, and scheduled Sunday parcel deliveries on 30 August, before regular services resume on Tuesday, 1 September.

The disruption is part of Royal Mail’s established approach to public holidays, when collections and deliveries are generally suspended. For households waiting for letters, documents or parcels, the timing may still matter: an item normally expected on Monday could instead arrive after services restart, depending on the postal product used and local workloads.

Most of the UK Will See No Collections or Deliveries

According to Royal Mail, there will be no deliveries or collections in England, Wales or Northern Ireland on Monday, 31 August. The same applies to large parts of Scotland, although the country’s differing local holiday arrangements mean some areas will continue operating.

The postal operator said services would continue in several Scottish postcode districts, including DG13, EH43-EH46, G, HS1-HS3, HS6, KW15-KW17, ML1-ML12, PA1-PA20, PA22-PA28, PA30-PA35, PA37-PA38, PA42, PA45, PA60, PH1, PH2, PH14, TD3, TD4-TD6, TD10-TD12, TD14 and ZE1-ZE2. Most KA postcode districts are also included, apart from KA6, KA7 and KA8.

Normal Royal Mail services are expected to resume on Tuesday, 1 September. According to the company’s guidance, First Class items are generally targeted for delivery by the next working day, including Saturdays, while Second Class post typically takes two to three working days.

Delivery times themselves vary by route and workload. Letters and smaller parcels can arrive from early morning through the afternoon, while some parcel services may operate into the evening. Sunday deliveries are available for selected products and locations rather than forming part of the standard letter-delivery pattern.

Local Disruption Remains Separate From the Bank Holiday Shutdown

The nationwide bank holiday pause is not the only issue affecting Royal Mail’s network. According to the company, a small number of delivery offices are also experiencing temporary difficulties linked to factors such as staff absence, resourcing pressures and other local conditions.

Among the offices listed as being affected are Bedford, Bridge of Don, Brierley Hill, Carmarthen, Chester, Dudley, Ilfracombe, Llandudno, Margate, Nuneaton, Ramsgate, Reading East, Rugeley and Wolverhampton NE. Royal Mail says deliveries may be rotated in these locations to reduce delays for individual customers while additional support is provided.

Road restrictions linked to the Notting Hill Carnival, running from 29 to 31 August, may also affect services in parts of west London. Royal Mail said access restrictions could disrupt some local deliveries and collections, although Monday’s bank holiday means no standard service will operate that day anyway.

Further local service suspensions are already scheduled in Scotland during September and October. According to Royal Mail, selected KA postcodes will be affected on 21 September, while additional areas including G, ML, PA, KW and ZE districts will see suspensions on 28 September. PH1, PH2 and PH14 are due to have no collections or deliveries on 5 October.
