{"id":124868,"date":"2026-08-29T13:15:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T12:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/?p=124868"},"modified":"2026-08-29T13:14:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T12:14:18","slug":"dwp-confirms-new-motability-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/dwp-confirms-new-motability-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"DWP Confirms New Motability Rules As Thousands Of Claimants Face Lease Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>New <strong>Motability Scheme<\/strong> rules will come into force on September 1, 2026, changing lease terms for some <strong>Personal Independence Payment (PIP)<\/strong> and <strong>Disability Living Allowance (DLA)<\/strong> customers in Scotland while protecting existing agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes apply to new Motability orders placed from the start of September and include lower mileage allowances, revised tyre replacement terms and new charges linked to certain services. Around <strong>70,000 customers across Scotland<\/strong> will keep their current lease terms if they recently placed an order or place one before the deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Lease Terms Apply To Future Motability Orders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/cost-of-living\/dwp-confirms-new-rules-september-34527321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham Live<\/a><\/strong>, the updated rules will affect customers who enter new leases from September 1, 2026. Existing leases will not be changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For new three-year leases, customers will receive a mileage allowance of <strong>30,000 miles<\/strong>, up to six tyre replacements including up to four replacements for damage, and a <strong>25p excess mileage fee<\/strong> including standard rate VAT. A \u00a322 VE103 administration fee will also apply for taking vehicles abroad to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For five-year <strong>Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV)<\/strong> leases, the allowance will be <strong>50,000 miles<\/strong>, with up to 10 tyre replacements including up to six for damage.
