The benefit can provide up to <strong>\u00a3748<\/strong> a month for eligible claimants whose condition affects their daily life or mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PIP Is Based on How a Condition Affects Daily Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/pip\/eligibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Personal Independence Payment (PIP)<\/a> is designed to help people with the extra costs associated with long-term health conditions or disabilities. Eligibility is not based solely on a medical diagnosis but on how a condition affects a person&#8217;s ability to carry out everyday activities and move around independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DWP assesses each claim individually. People with vision or hearing impairments may qualify if their condition has a significant impact on daily living or mobility, even if they are still able to work. Following the <strong>3.8% increase<\/strong> in benefit rates introduced in April, the standard daily living payment is <strong>\u00a376.55 a week<\/strong>, while the enhanced rate is<strong> \u00a3114.80<\/strong>. For the mobility component, the standard rate is<strong> \u00a330.20 per week<\/strong> and the enhanced rate is <strong>\u00a380.10<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the outcome of the assessment, claimants may receive one component, both components, or neither. Those awarded the highest levels of support can receive up to<strong> \u00a3187 a week<\/strong>, equivalent to around<strong> \u00a3748 every four weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Than 100,000 Awards Cover Eye and Ear Conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the latest DWP figures, more than <strong>103,000 PIP<\/strong> awards are linked to eye and ear conditions. The department currently lists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/cost-of-living\/dwp-list-eye-ear-conditions-34394937\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">59 conditions<\/a> covering a wide range of vision and hearing disorders. These include <strong>glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, cortical blindness, congenital deafness, M\u00e9ni\u00e8re\u2019s disease, otosclerosis and several forms of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The figures published by the DWP show that congenital deafness, vision disorders affecting unspecified conditions, cortical blindness and retinitis pigmentosa are among the most common conditions recorded for PIP claimants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Diagnosis Alone Does Not Guarantee Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The DWP has made clear that having one of the listed conditions does not automatically mean someone will qualify for<a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/pip-employment-shake-bring-more-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> PIP<\/a>. Instead, assessors look at how the condition affects everyday activities such as preparing food, washing, dressing, communicating, reading, managing medication and travelling independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Welfare advisers encourage anyone whose eyesight or hearing makes daily tasks difficult to consider submitting a claim, even if their specific diagnosis does not appear on the published list.
