Amazon has officially launched its latest £500 million fulfilment centre in Northampton, marking a significant step in the company’s UK expansion. Deliveries have already begun, and the site is expected to provide over 2,000 jobs by the end of 2026, spanning logistics, engineering, IT, HR, and finance roles.

The 550,000-square-foot SEGRO Park warehouse is one of the most technologically advanced in the UK. Staff work alongside thousands of Hercules robots, which retrieve and deliver products directly to employees for packing and shipping. This combination of robotics and human expertise aims to increase efficiency while maintaining high standards of accuracy and speed.

Frontline roles start at £29,744 per year and come with a suite of benefits, including private medical insurance, subsidised meals, an employee discount, and funded career development from day one. Amazon says this makes the site not only a high-tech facility but also a modern and supportive workplace.

The Northampton facility is just the first half of Amazon’s £1 billion investment in the county this year. Later in 2026, a second £500 million fulfilment centre will open in Kettering, covering 900,000 square feet and expected to generate an additional 2,000 jobs. Together, the two centres will provide more than 4,000 positions, making Northamptonshire a major hub for the company’s UK operations.

John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager, highlighted the scale of the investment: “A year ago we said we’d invest £40 billion in the UK. Today you can see what that means; 4,000 jobs in Northamptonshire, 2,000 in Hull, drone deliveries from Darlington, a new tech HQ in Swansea. We said we’d deliver and we have. And we’re only a year in,” reports Northamptonchron.

He added that the investments serve both customers and communities, enabling faster delivery while creating high-quality jobs across the county.

Gareth Davies, Amazon regional director, expressed pride in the impact for Northampton: “Our new fulfilment centre is up and running, with cutting-edge robotics, a modern working environment, comprehensive benefits and genuine career development opportunities.”

Louise Wall, CEO of the Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, stated that the launch of the new facility would deliver a major economic boost to the county, generating jobs and opening new opportunities for local businesses.

Amazon Expansion Brings Jobs and Cutting-Edge Technology
