The warnings cover products sold at Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, with hazards ranging from contamination by foreign objects to allergens left off the label.

According to the Food Standards Agency, which has issued several “do not eat” notices over the past fortnight, anyone who has bought the affected items should not consume them. In most cases customers are advised to return products to the store for a full refund, and several of the recalls require no receipt.

Glass and Metal Contamination Prompts Two Separate Recalls

Morrisons is recalling its Morrisons Savers Cashews because the product may contain pieces of glass. The affected packs weigh 125g and carry best before dates of 9 August, 6 September, 26 September, 28 September and 9 October 2026. The recall, issued on 26 May, applies to stores in England, Scotland and Wales.

The Food Standards Agency said point of sale notices would be displayed in all stores selling the cashews, explaining the reason for the recall and advising shoppers what to do. Customers who have bought the product are told to return it to their nearest store for a refund. A Morrisons spokesman said no other products were affected and apologised for any inconvenience.

In a separate alert two days later, Fox’s Burton’s Companies (FBC) UK began recalling Arran Fine Foods Caramelised Red Onion Chutney over concerns it may contain pieces of metal. The condiment is sold at Tesco and Sainsbury’s, and has since been removed from the Sainsbury’s website while listed as out of stock on Tesco’s online platform.

The recall covers 195g jars with best before dates running into early 2029, alongside 1.35kg packs dated through 2027, according to the FSA. The agency said the presence of metal made the product unsafe to eat and urged shoppers to return it for a full refund. The product, which has a best before date of 6 June 2026, presents a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy to barley.

The Food Standards Agency said Waitrose had contacted the relevant allergy support organisations so they could inform their members about the recall. Customers with a barley allergy are advised not to eat the buns and to return them for a refund, with no receipt required. A Waitrose spokesman apologised for the inconvenience caused, and shoppers seeking further detail can call Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, option 4.

A fourth recall affects the Gü Double Sea Salted Caramel Frozen Dessert, which is also sold at Tesco and Waitrose. The dessert has been withdrawn because it may contain hazelnuts and soya not mentioned on the packaging, making it a risk to anyone allergic to nuts or soya.

The affected product carries the lot number 126135 and a best before date of 30 June 2027, according to the FSA. Gü said the issue was limited to a very small number of products, believed to be fewer than 10 units, and that it had introduced stronger allergen and packing controls in response. The company added that the majority of customers who bought the affected dessert were likely to have already been contacted, and directed anyone with questions to email recall@gupuds.com.

The Food Standards Agency issues Product Recall Information Notices, and in some cases a Food Alert for Action, to inform consumers and local authorities about problems linked to food.
