Up to 910,000 pensioner households<\/strong> across the UK could be missing out on Pension Credit<\/strong>, new figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)<\/strong> suggest. Despite growing awareness of the benefit, many older people are still not claiming the support they are entitled to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharp Drop in Pension Credit Applications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The latest DWP data shows that Pension Credit<\/strong><\/a> applications fell sharply in 2025\/26<\/strong>. The department received 211,125 applications<\/strong>, down 34%<\/strong> from 321,035 the previous year.<\/strong> Similarly, awards dropped to 138,165<\/strong>, a 24%<\/strong> decline from 180,970 in 2024\/25.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financial experts warn that this decline hides a much larger problem. According to Broadstone, up to 910,000 eligible households<\/strong> are not claiming Pension Credit, potentially missing out on \u00a32.5 billion in support.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Pension Credit Offers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Pension Credit is a means-tested benefit designed to top up the income of older people with low earnings. Guarantee Credit ensures a weekly minimum income of \u00a3238 for singles<\/strong> and \u00a3363.25 for couples<\/strong>, with extra amounts for those who are disabled, carers, or have certain housing costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Savings Credit can provide an additional \u00a317.96 per week for singles<\/strong> and \u00a320 for couples,<\/strong> depending on income and savings. Overall, eligible pensioners could receive up to \u00a34,300 a year in total support.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
