The issue comes at a time when household budgets are already under strain. Research suggests that a significant proportion of consumers misunderstand their current energy arrangements, potentially leaving them vulnerable to higher costs <\/strong>in the months ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Widespread Unawareness as Price Cap Rise Approaches<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nearly 12 million households on standard energy tariffs are at risk of higher bills this summer. According to research by Uswitch<\/a>, 63%<\/strong> of these households do not realise that prices are expected to rise from July, while 17%<\/strong> believe costs will fall instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increase is linked to the energy price cap, which is regulated by Ofgem. It is forecast to rise by 12%<\/strong>, adding \u00a3202 to the average annual bill. This would bring typical yearly costs from \u00a31,641 to \u00a31,843, according to figures reported by Uswitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confusion extends beyond general awareness. Around 26% of households do not know what is happening to the price cap, while 19% mistakenly expect a decrease in energy <\/a>costs. This lack of clarity<\/strong> comes despite the direct impact the cap has on standard tariff users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The financial consequences are expected to be significant. According to the same research, 66% of households say that even a 10% increase in energy bills would affect their finances. Around 10% would need to use savings to cover costs, while 17% would cut back on essentials such as food or transport. Younger households appear particularly exposed. Data indicates that 18% would need to find additional income, and 11% fear they could fall into debt as a result of rising bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
