Cross-Pavement Charging Expands through Council Rollout<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A central element of the initiative is the expansion of cross-pavement charging<\/strong>, a system that allows homeowners to run a cable safely from their property to a parked vehicle via a specially installed channel. This approach is designed for residents who rely on on-street parking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Vauxhall data, 42 <\/strong>per cent of councils are expected to have cross-pavement charging available by the end of 2026. In total, 56 <\/strong>councils across England, Scotland and Wales either already offer or are planning to introduce such schemes. At present, seven councils have fully operational systems, while 21 <\/strong>are running trials and a further 28 <\/strong>intend to launch services later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A separate partnership with Connected Kerb provides an alternative benefit for drivers who rely on public charging. According to the company, eligible customers purchasing a new Vauxhall electric vehicle can receive \u00a3500 in charging credit, accessible via the Connected Kerb network through a mobile application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These measures reflect wider findings about consumer behaviour. Kerbo Charge research indicates that 53 per cent<\/strong> of drivers would only consider switching to an electric vehicle if they could charge at home. This highlights the importance of accessible and affordable charging solutions for those without driveways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael Goulden<\/a>, chief executive of Kerbo Charge, said the combination of installation discounts and lower charging costs could make a significant difference for households with on-street parking. He added that the ability to charge a vehicle at home for under \u00a35<\/strong> may help address concerns about running costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The broader push aligns with earlier developments in Northern Ireland, where cross-pavement charging received approval in mid-2025 and has already been adopted by hundreds of drivers. According to the Electric Vehicle Association<\/a>, a lack of clear information about home charging options continues to be a recurring issue for motorists considering the transition to electric vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taken together, the latest measures point to a coordinated effort between manufacturers, private providers and local authorities.
