Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in the UK have a short window to take advantage of a new financial incentive from EDF. The energy supplier is offering a £50 credit to customers, both new and existing, who sign up for any of its EV tariffs before mid-February.

The promotion applies to several tariff options, all of which promise overnight savings and compatibility with all vehicle types. As energy prices remain a major concern for households, the deal could represent a timely saving for those with electric vehicles or considering making the switch.

Incentive Applies to Wide Range of EV Tariffs

According to EDF, the £50 credit is available to customers who subscribe to any of its electric vehicle tariffs by 15 February. This includes GoElectric, Pod Point EV Exclusive, Evolve, and Pod Point Plug & Power. Each of these tariffs includes five hours of reduced-rate electricity nightly from midnight to 5 a.m., with the electricity sourced from 100% zero-carbon supply.

EDF emphasises that, unlike certain tariffs on the market, its EV plans are compatible with any vehicle make or model. The company states the £50 will be credited to the customer’s EDF account within 30 days of successfully signing up to one of the eligible tariffs.

Rich Hughes, EDF’s Director of Retail, said, “We know customers are looking for ways to save money in the new year, so we’re giving £50 credit to anyone who signs up to one of our EV tariffs by 15th February.”

Customers on the Evolve or GoElectric tariffs can also activate a “bolt-on” that delivers an additional £5 monthly reward. This incentive is offered simply for plugging in and using the Smart Charging feature, which can extend access to lower electricity rates beyond the typical 12 a.m.–5 a.m. window.

EDF Highlights Cost-Saving and Environmental Benefits

EDF claims that its EV tariffs offer practical benefits beyond the one-off financial incentive. According to the company, the GoElectric tariff in particular is one of the most cost-effective solutions available. When combined with the £50 sign-up credit and the optional monthly reward, EDF says an average motorist could save over £1,000 per year compared to fuelling a petrol car, though this figure is based solely on EV charging costs.

The tariffs are designed to allow customers to charge both their homes and vehicles during cheaper overnight periods, supporting what EDF describes as a smoother and more affordable energy experience. “Our EV tariffs make charging at home simpler and more affordable,” Hughes added. “By choosing an EDF EV tariff, customers can reduce their carbon footprint, take advantage of cleaner electricity, and play an active part in Britain’s transition to a more electric, sustainable future – all while saving money.”

To be eligible, customers must have a smart meter installed and be opted into half-hourly meter readings. According to Birmingham Live, this allows EDF to monitor and apply the lower off-peak rates more effectively. Customers interested in the promotion have until 15 February to sign up. Full details and instructions are available on the EDF EV tariff webpage.
