EDF is encouraging customers to begin the year with energy savings by taking part in its returning Sunday Saver<\/strong> challenge throughout January. The offer, which provides free electricity on Sundays, is designed to help households cut costs during the traditionally expensive post-holiday period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative forms part of a wider strategy to reduce energy demand during weekday peak hours. Participating customers can earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity every Sunday, depending on how much of their usage they shift away from peak times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four Sundays of Free Electricity for Eligible Edf Customers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

EDF\u2019s Sunday Saver<\/strong> is available to domestic customers with a working smart electricity meter and opted-in half-hourly meter readings. The energy supplier is the only one currently offering four Sundays of free electricity in January and early February. The challenge begins on Monday 5 January, and the earned free usage can be applied on 18 and 25 January, as well as 1 and 8 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to EDF, customers can increase the number of free hours they receive by shifting more of their electricity use away from the peak period of 4pm to 7pm<\/strong> on weekdays. This behaviour is monitored and rewarded each week. Those taking part will be able to track their progress and energy consumption patterns through the Energy Hub<\/em> <\/a>in their MyAccount<\/em> portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EDF <\/a>has confirmed that more than 210,000 households have already taken advantage of the scheme since it was launched. According to EDF, participants have collectively saved over \u00a33.4 million<\/strong> on their electricity bills by adjusting their usage habits and making use of the free Sunday periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deadline Approaching for Registration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Households interested in taking part have until 11.59pm on Sunday 4 January to sign up for the January challenge. The registration process can be completed via EDF\u2019s MyAccount<\/strong><\/em> system. Customers must ensure their smart meter is fully operational and configured for half-hourly readings in order to be eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to EDF\u2019s Director of Retail, Rich Hughes<\/strong>, the programme is particularly well-suited to the New Year period, when many people are actively looking to save money. He stated: \u201cJanuary is a time when many people look for new ways to save after the festive period, so we\u2019re delighted to resume our Sunday Saver challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The offer not only supports household budgets, but also contributes to EDF\u2019s wider sustainability goals. The company highlights that by reducing electricity demand during weekday peak hours, customers are helping to create a more stable and sustainable energy grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants in previous iterations of the scheme have benefited by moving high-usage activities <\/strong>such as laundry, cooking, or charging appliances to outside the peak window. The electricity saved during the week is then rewarded with free hours that can be used for similar activities on Sundays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sunday Saver remains one of EDF\u2019s most visible customer incentives, combining financial benefits with behavioural change.
