The move comes after the company narrowly avoided collapse, securing a High Court-approved rescue package earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The closures form part of a broader restructuring plan aimed at simplifying product pricing, cutting operational costs, and restoring customer trust in the brand. At the core of the initiative is a return to Poundland\u2019s original<strong> \u00a31 pricing model<\/strong>, a format it describes as \u201cback to its roots\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Store Closures Confirmed as Leases End<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of<strong> 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/lidl-expansion-66-new-stores-scotland\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"114416\">stores <\/a><\/strong>are now confirmed to close by early 2026, with <strong>11 branches <\/strong>already shut in October. The retailer will close one further store, in <em>Walsall<\/em>, before month\u2019s end. According to <em>Poundland<\/em>, the closures are linked to <strong>expiring lease agreements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November, stores in <em>Matlock, Carlisle, Burnley, Witham, Sidcup, Peckham<\/em> and <em>Launceston<\/em> are due to close. A further <strong>ten locations,<\/strong> including <em>Hailsham, Loughborough, New Malden, Dalston,<\/em> and <em>Droitwich<\/em> \u2014 were added this week to the closure list. Clearance sales are now under way in affected branches, with <strong>discounts of up to 40%<\/strong> on items ranging from homewares to groceries and clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <em>Poundland UK country manager <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/darren-macdonald-02a22511\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Darren MacDonald<\/em><\/a>, the chain is \u201cdetermined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value\u201d, noting that these reductions allow the company to \u201cleave locations with pride\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Simpler Pricing Aims to Revive Customer Confidence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The store closures are just one aspect of a <strong>major operational overhaul<\/strong> at the discount chain. <em>Poundland<\/em> has also announced a return to <strong>simplified pricing<\/strong> across its stores, adopting flat rates of <strong>\u00a31, \u00a32 and \u00a33<\/strong> for its <strong>grocery<\/strong> and <strong>general merchandise ranges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows a <strong>five-month pilot in 17 West Midlands stores<\/strong>, where the new pricing structure reportedly received positive customer feedback. As part of the rollout, around <strong>60% of grocery products will be priced at \u00a31<\/strong>, with the remainder split between \u00a32 and \u00a33. The change aims to eliminate what the company described as \u201cadditional price complexity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <em>managing director <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.linkedin.com\/in\/barry-williams-4725a712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Barry Williams<\/em><\/a>, the overhaul is based on clear customer feedback: \u201cThey will back a simpler, more focused Poundland that keeps its promise of amazing value.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move has also produced an unexpected benefit. Trial stores recorded a <strong>25% drop in shoplifting<\/strong>, attributed to the removal of higher-value items, like \u00a35 dishwasher tablets, from shelves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The restructuring plan, backed by an <strong>injection of up to \u00a360 million<\/strong> in new funding from <em>Gordon Brothers<\/em>, will also see two UK warehouses close. Approximately <strong>1,000 jobs<\/strong> are believed to be at risk as a result of the programme.
