Several key train and tube services will be either delayed or completely suspended, making travel planning essential for those heading out for the weekend’s events.

The planned closures are particularly notable on the Central line, as well as on several Overground services, including the Mildmay, Suffragette, and Windrush lines. These changes could cause delays for thousands of passengers, so being prepared and aware of alternative routes will be crucial.

Central Line and Waterloo & City Closures

This weekend will see major closures on some of London’s busiest underground lines. The Central line will be entirely closed from Leytonstone to Epping and Woodford (via Hainault) on both Saturday and Sunday. The disruption includes the Friday Night Tube, which will also be affected by the shutdown.

In addition to this, the entire Waterloo & City line will be closed for the duration of the weekend. This line, typically used by commuters heading to the financial district, is a crucial connection between Bank and Waterloo stations.

According to Transport for London (TfL), no trains will operate along this route from Friday evening through to Monday morning, leaving commuters to rely on alternative services during the peak travel times.

Impact on Overground and Other Services

Further disruptions will affect Overground services across London. The Mildmay line, connecting Willesden Junction to Richmond, will be suspended on Sunday. Additionally, trains between Shepherd’s Bush and Camden Road will run at a reduced frequency of one every 15 minutes on the same day.

Another notable disruption is the planned termination of the Suffragette line service from Barking Riverside to Gospel Oak, which will end at Upper Holloway at 11:38 pm on Friday. On Saturday, certain late-night services from Clapham Junction to Stratford, and to Willesden Junction, will also be cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Windrush line will face significant alterations on Sunday. No trains will run between Balham and London Bridge (via Crystal Palace and Forest Hill), nor between Sydenham and Crystal Palace.

Passengers will have to rely on replacement buses or use alternative routes such as the Jubilee line to travel between Canada Water and London Bridge.

Travellers are advised to plan ahead and consider alternative transport options where possible, particularly for attending popular events like the Wimbledon finals and the BST Hyde Park concert series. Checking live updates from TfL will be key to avoiding any unnecessary disruptions.

This weekend, several key tube and train lines in London will face significant disruptions, including the Central and Overground lines.
