This move, part of a wider trend among UK banks to attract new customers through direct financial incentives, reflects growing competition in the retail banking sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/santander-free-cash-offer-switch-deal\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/santander-free-cash-offer-switch-deal\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GB News<\/a><\/em>, Santander has not revealed how long the promotion will remain active, adding a degree of urgency for interested applicants. While the bank promotes simplicity and accessibility, few operational details have been disclosed at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility and Application Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify, customers must not have held a Santander current account on January 1, 2025 and must use the Current Account <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/octopus-energys-major-update-service-cutoff\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"108064\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Switch Service<\/a>, including the closure of their external account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incentive applies to four eligible current accounts: the fee-free Everyday Current Account, the Edge account, the Edge Up account, and the Private Current Account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Customers must initiate the switch within the promotional period, complete the process within 60 days, deposit a minimum of \u00a31,500 (either in one transaction or multiple payments), and set up at least two active Direct Debits during that timeframe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Submit a switch request<\/strong> from May 29, 2025, before the offer is withdrawn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Complete the full switch<\/strong> within 60 days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Deposit at least \u00a31,500<\/strong> within that period (in one or multiple payments)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Set up at least two active Direct Debits<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Anthony Warrington, Head of Banking at <em>Santander UK<\/em>, explained the timing of the initiative:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Summer is fast approaching, and many people will be saving up for the holidays \u2013 whether it be for that trip abroad, festival, or day out with the family. That&#8217;s why we&#8217;re pleased to be introducing our new \u00a3180 switcher incentive.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Payment and Account Features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u00a3180 incentive will be paid within 90 days of starting the switch process, assuming all eligibility conditions are fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warrington also highlighted a key benefit of the fee-free account:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The offer includes Santander&#8217;s fee-free Everyday Current Account, which allows customers to withdraw cash abroad without charges.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Edge and Edge Up accounts come with monthly fees and minimum deposit requirements, but offer additional cashback features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From September 9, 2025, Santander will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Remove the 1% cashback<\/strong> on <strong>supermarket and travel purchases<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain <strong>1% cashback<\/strong> on <strong>selected household bills<\/strong>, capped at:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a310\/month for <em>Edge<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a315\/month for <em>Edge Up<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to offer <strong>fee-free debit card use abroad<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/santander-revises-mortgage-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"104540\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Santander<\/a> is handled automatically through the Current Account Switch Service, with almost all switches completed in under a week. According to Santander, nine out of ten customers report being satisfied with the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">comparison with alternative bank incentives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Santander\u2019s \u00a3180 offer is competitive but not the highest on the market. Other UK banks are currently offering the following switching incentives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>TSB<\/strong>: up to <strong>\u00a3310<\/strong> (cash, cashback, and vouchers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nationwide<\/strong>: <strong>\u00a3200<\/strong> for existing customers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>First Direct<\/strong> and <strong>Co-op Bank<\/strong>: up to <strong>\u00a3175<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Alastair Douglas, CEO of <em>TotallyMoney<\/em>, noted the opportunity for those not eligible for Santander\u2019s offer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>If you&#8217;re not eligible for the Santander account, and are willing to switch, then there&#8217;s other options for you.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Just remember that loyalty doesn&#8217;t pay, but switching who you bank with can.
