Weather maps are forecasting widespread rain for the UK on May 16, with heavy downpours expected to affect England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Despite moderate temperatures hovering around 16°C, the wet conditions will likely disrupt daily activities across the country.

The UK has enjoyed a mild start to May, with some unseasonably warm weather. However, this break from the rain will be short-lived, as experts predict a deluge of rain that will affect all parts of the UK on May 16.

WX Charts predicts a washout on this day, with rain expected from coast to coast, reaching even southern areas like London and extending into Yorkshire.

May 16: A Washout Across the UK

The forecast from WX Charts indicates that rainfall will be a major feature of May 16, with downpours expected across the entire country. Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-teens, ranging from 12°C to 17°C across most areas.

Despite the rain, these temperatures will ensure that it won’t be an unseasonably cold day, though it will still be a damp one for most of the UK.

While specific weather patterns may change closer to the date, southern regions including the south of England are set to experience heavy rainfall along their entire coastline, according to WX Charts. Notably, London and areas as far north as Yorkshire will see rain as well.

The persistent downpours may last well into May 17, primarily affecting southern regions.

Met Office Outlook: A Dry Start to the Month

The UK’s official forecaster, the Met Office, provides a slightly different view of the coming days. For Sunday, May 4, the Met Office predicts a fresh start to the day, with dry weather expected for most parts, although a few showers are likely along the North Sea coasts.

The forecast for Bank Holiday Monday through to Wednesday, May 7 indicates dry conditions with sunny spells, and temperatures near average. It will be breezy in some areas, particularly in the mornings and evenings, but generally dry conditions will prevail.

This contrast between the settled weather at the start of May and the abrupt shift to heavy rain on May 16 will come as a surprise to many.

Those planning outdoor activities or travel should be prepared for the wet conditions. Despite the rain, temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild, providing some relief amid the downpours.
