{"id":108476,"date":"2025-04-29T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/?p=108476"},"modified":"2025-04-29T10:31:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T09:31:46","slug":"dwp-hmrc-adjust-benefit-payments-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/dwp-hmrc-adjust-benefit-payments-may\/","title":{"rendered":"DWP and HMRC Adjust Benefit Payments for May Bank Holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <em>Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)<\/em>, <em>HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)<\/em>, and <em>Social Security Scotland<\/em> have announced early payment dates for several benefits due in May, in response to two upcoming bank holidays in England, Wales, and Scotland: the Early May Bank Holiday on Monday, 5 May, and the Spring Bank Holiday on Monday, 26 May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes aim to ensure that claimants receive their financial support without disruption, as public offices and services will be temporarily closed during the holidays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a report by <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.devonlive.com\/news\/dwp-hmrc-benefit-payment-dates-10138008\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.devonlive.com\/news\/dwp-hmrc-benefit-payment-dates-10138008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Devon Live<\/a><\/em>, DWP and HMRC have coordinated efforts to advance a wide range of essential payments, helping individuals plan ahead during the holiday period and avoid potential financial gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early Payments Due to Early May Bank Holiday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Benefit payments originally scheduled for Monday, 5 May will now be deposited on Friday, 2 May, to accommodate the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/dwp-benefit-payments-easter-bank-holidays\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"108030\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Early May Bank Holiday<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This adjustment affects a broad list of <strong>UK-wide<\/strong> and <strong>devolved<\/strong> benefits, including :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Universal Credit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>State Pension<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personal Independence Payment (PIP)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Attendance Allowance<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adult Disability Payment (ADP)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Carer\u2019s Allowance<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Income Support<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance (JSA)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pension Credit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Child Benefit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Guardian\u2019s Allowance<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scottish Child Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Carer Support Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pension Age Disability Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In an official statement, the <strong>DWP<\/strong> clarified the reason behind the date change :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>On Monday 5 May offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when our offices are open, arrangements have been made to make some payments early. If the expected payment date is Monday 5 May then benefits will be paid early on Friday 2 May.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>All <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/contact-jobcentre-plus\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/contact-jobcentre-plus\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jobcentre Plus offices<\/a> and DWP phone lines will be closed on the day of the holiday, resuming normal operations on Tuesday, 6 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spring Bank Holiday Prompts Second Round of Early Payments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/21-uk-bank-holiday-dates-for-2025-and-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"108451\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spring Bank Holiday<\/a> on Monday, 26 May will also prompt a shift in payment dates. According to confirmations by both HMRC and Social Security Scotland, payments scheduled for this date will instead be made on Friday, 23 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change currently applies to :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Child Benefit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Guardian\u2019s Allowance<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adult Disability Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Child Disability Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scottish Child Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Carer Support Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pension Age Disability Payment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/how-the-dwps-new-policies\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"100948\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The DWP<\/a>, however, has not yet confirmed whether it will also advance payments due on 26 May.
