{"id":105650,"date":"2025-03-07T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-07T16:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/?p=105650"},"modified":"2025-03-07T15:49:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-07T15:49:30","slug":"financial-support-scottish-families-increase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/financial-support-scottish-families-increase\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial Support for Scottish Families Set to Increase in April 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Starting in April, <strong>Scottish families<\/strong> will see an increase in the financial support they receive to help with the daily costs of raising children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/payment-boost-parents-guardians-scotland-34808473\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/payment-boost-parents-guardians-scotland-34808473\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Record<\/a><\/strong>, this will come from a combination of the <strong>Scottish Child Payment<\/strong>, <strong>Child Benefit<\/strong>, and <strong>Best Start Grants<\/strong>, which provide crucial financial assistance to <strong>Scottish families<\/strong> with children under the age of 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes aim to reduce financial pressures on <strong>Scottish families<\/strong>, offering them additional support for everyday needs such as food, clothing, and education, helping to ease the burden of rising living costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is the Scottish Child Payment?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Scottish Child Payment, a unique initiative to Scotland, has been supporting Scottish families since February 2021. This weekly payment is currently set at <strong>\u00a326.70<\/strong> per eligible child under 16 years of age, which will rise to <strong>\u00a327.15<\/strong> per week from April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that parents and carers can receive <strong>\u00a3108.60<\/strong> every four weeks per child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of late 2024, over <strong>\u00a31 billion<\/strong> has been paid out to <strong>326,080 families<\/strong> across Scotland, benefiting children aged 16 or under. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/list-scotland-1-9-billion-unique-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"100004\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social Security Scotland<\/a> revealed that one in 10 families who might be eligible for the payment are not claiming it, underscoring the importance of raising awareness about this benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child Benefit and How It Supports Families<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.econostrum.info\/uk\/winter-heating-payment-children-scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"100021\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scottish Child Payment<\/a>, families across the UK, including those in Scotland, receive <strong>Child Benefit<\/strong>. This UK-wide benefit is paid to parents or guardians of children, with the amount varying based on the number of children in a family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the eldest child, the payment is currently <strong>\u00a325.60<\/strong> per week, and <strong>\u00a317.25<\/strong> for additional children. From <strong>April 7, 2025<\/strong>, the payment for the eldest child will increase to <strong>\u00a326.05<\/strong> per week, while payments for additional children will be <strong>\u00a317.25<\/strong> per week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Combined with the Scottish Child Payment, parents can receive up to <strong>\u00a3212.20<\/strong> per month in financial support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best Start Grants for Early Childhood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Scottish Government also provides one-off payments to help with costs at key stages of a child&#8217;s early life. These include the Best Start Grant Pregnancy and Baby Payment, Early Learning Payment, and School Age Payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These payments are designed to support Scottish families through pregnancy and early childhood, with amounts ranging from \u00a3314.45 to <strong>\u00a3754.65<\/strong> depending on the stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Best Start Grant Pregnancy and Baby Payment: Up to \u00a3754.65, available after 24 weeks of pregnancy until a baby turns six months (rising to \u00a3767.50 in April).<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Best Start Grant Early Learning Payment: \u00a3314.45 (rising to \u00a3319.80 in April) to help with early learning costs for children between two and three years and six months.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Best Start Grant School Age Payment: \u00a3314.45 (rising to \u00a3319.80 in April) to help with the costs of starting school, available for children starting Primary One.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, <strong>Best Start Foods<\/strong> offers families <strong>\u00a342.40<\/strong> every four weeks (rising to <strong>\u00a343.20<\/strong> in April) from pregnancy until a child turns three, to help buy healthy food, milk, and infant formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extending Access to Benefits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent policy changes have made it easier for Scottish families to access these vital benefits.
