A nationwide recall has been issued for the Myprotein Gooey Filled Cookie – Double Chocolate & Caramel, following a serious labelling error that may pose a health risk to consumers with gluten sensitivities or coeliac disease

The product, manufactured by THG Nutrition Limited, was found to contain undeclared wheat (gluten), making it potentially dangerous for certain consumers.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the recall applies to both individual 75g cookies and multi-packs (12 x 75g), with best before dates ranging from 17 June 2025 to 16 July 2026. All batch codes are included in the alert. Affected shoppers are urged not to consume the product and to return it to the store of purchase for a full refund.

Risk to Vulnerable Consumers Prompts Swift Action

The FSA has categorised the undeclared allergen as a “possible health risk” to individuals with coeliac disease or an intolerance to wheat or gluten.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder where ingestion of gluten triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine, potentially leading to long-term health complications. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, fatigue, and in some cases, neurological issues such as brain fog and headaches.

According to the FSA, “when there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert”. This process ensures affected products are either withdrawn or recalled to protect public health.

In this case, THG Nutrition Limited has responded promptly by recalling all relevant products and issuing customer notices, in addition to working with allergy support organisations to increase awareness.

Growing Scrutiny Over Labelling Accuracy

This incident comes amid increasing scrutiny on food labelling standards across the UK. Accurate allergen labelling is a legal requirement under UK food safety regulations, with severe implications for failure to comply.

According to guidelines, any food product containing one or more of 14 recognised allergens—including wheat and gluten—must declare them clearly on packaging.

Customers seeking more information can contact THG Nutrition directly via telephone or email, with full details provided in the FSA’s official alert. Meanwhile, organisations such as Bupa and Allergy UK continue to offer public guidance on managing gluten intolerance and wheat allergies.

While no health incidents have been reported in relation to the mislabelled cookie at the time of writing, this recall serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent food safety practices—particularly for consumers who rely on accurate labelling to avoid serious health consequences.
