The forecast for the coming days indicates significant changes in the UK’s weather. According to the latest reports, warm air from the continent is expected to influence the region, bringing a brief period of milder temperatures. Birmingham Mail notes that a tropical plume could lead to warmer conditions, particularly in southern areas.
The shift in weather patterns is set to bring a temporary break from the recent unsettled and rainy conditions, although experts warn of rapid changes in temperature. The transition to more stable weather is anticipated to last only a short time, before cooler conditions return.
Tropical Plume Brings Brief Warmth to the UK
As the British summer draws to a close, an unexpected weather event is set to provide a brief return to warmth. A tropical plume of air, with temperatures reaching up to 25°C, is forecast to hit the UK from tomorrow, offering a final taste of summer heat. The warm, southerly winds will shift the recent wet and windy weather, giving Brits one last chance to bask in the sun.
Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, explained that after Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise.
We could see temperatures in the 20°C range in parts of the country by next week, as we see a change to a spell of settled, warmer weather – he said.
According to Dale, southerly winds drawing in from the Continent will bring warmer air, marking a shift away from the low-pressure systems that have dominated recent weather.
Tropical Air Brings One Last Summer Hoorah
This tropical plume will provide a brief burst of heat as warmer air arrives from the south. Jim Dale noted that the usual low-pressure systems to the north of the UK are expected to slow down, allowing high pressure to take over. This change will bring milder weather, and the south of the country is likely to see temperatures rise as a result. However, he also cautioned,
This is another fat, flabby low that sits to the north of the country, and it is here that we may see some more unsettled conditions through the middle of the week.
While it’s not exactly the full-blown summer heat that many might hope for, it will still be a significant improvement over the chilly, rainy spells that have dominated the last few weeks. Expect temperatures to climb into the mid-20s in some southern parts of the UK, providing the perfect opportunity for a weekend outdoors.

The BBC’s forecast also highlights that high pressure will briefly provide more settled weather, allowing for warmer conditions in most areas.
Cooling Off: A Sudden Drop in Temperatures
However, this tropical warmth won’t last. By Sunday, temperatures are predicted to plummet, with Scotland seeing snowfall and temperatures dipping as low as 0°C in the early morning. The rest of the country will experience a cool-down as well, with single-digit temperatures throughout the day. It’s a sharp contrast to the warmth just days before, showing just how quickly the UK’s weather can shift. As BBC forecaster Louis Lear explained,
The unsettled theme stays with us because of the position of the jet stream. We’ve got this significant kink in the jet stream, and actually, we are going to see the jet stream cut off, which produces what is known as a cut-off low pressure.
This cut-off low will result in unsettled conditions across central and southern England, keeping the weather unpredictable for several days. Despite these shifts, Lear noted that a more settled period is expected next week:
From Monday 22 to Sunday 28 September, a drier period is possible – he added.
This drier weather will likely come with lighter winds, but there will still be the chance of Atlantic frontal systems impacting the northern UK, particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland.
