Tesco has issued an important notice to Clubcard users across the UK, urging them to update their app before Sunday, March 31 to avoid losing access to their loyalty points and digital benefits. According to Express.co.uk, the update affects users who have not yet switched to the latest version of the app.

What’s Changing and Why It Matters

From March 31, older versions of the Tesco Clubcard app will be deactivated, meaning customers still using outdated apps may lose access to features such as points tracking, coupons, and digital Clubcard usage at the checkout. Tesco is consolidating its app services to ensure better security, functionality, and a more streamlined shopping experience.

In a message to customers, Tesco explained:
“To increase your data protection and online security, we’re updating our Tesco app to a newer version. After 31 March, older versions of the app will no longer work. To keep shopping and enjoying all of your Clubcard benefits on your app, make sure you have the latest version before 31 March.”

This update follows growing concerns around app security and customer data protection, prompting many retailers to modernise their digital platforms and push for more secure logins and regular updates.

What Customers Need to Do Before the Deadline

The supermarket is encouraging all users to check for updates in their device’s app store and install the latest version of the Tesco app. Users will also need to ensure they’ve accepted any new terms and privacy notices in order to maintain full functionality.

Tesco reassured customers that other shopping tools remain unaffected:
“This update won’t affect anything you do on tesco.com”, the company noted.

Customers are advised to complete the following steps before March 31:

  • Open the Tesco app and check for updates via the App Store or Google Play
  • Ensure permissions and notifications are enabled
  • Log in and accept any new terms if prompted
  • Export or redeem any current Clubcard vouchers

Failure to act before the deadline may result in limited access, especially at checkout, where the digital Clubcard barcode is required to earn points or redeem offers.

Enhanced Integration of Shopping and Loyalty Features

The app update reflects Tesco’s push to bring more services together in one place. By encouraging users to manage their shopping and Clubcard account through a single app, Tesco aims to offer a more cohesive experience, particularly as digital loyalty tools become central to retail strategy.

Tesco highlighted this integration in its messaging:
“Update your Tesco app today. Carry on managing your shop and Clubcard in one place.”

As more retailers phase out physical loyalty cards and move toward digital-only platforms, staying current with app updates has become critical for customers who want to retain full access to loyalty perks, discounts, and personalised offers.

What Happens If You Don’t Update?

Tesco has confirmed that if customers do not update their app in time, older versions will no longer function after March 31. While physical Clubcards may still work temporarily in-store, users will be unable to view their point balance or use digital vouchers via the app until the update is completed.

To support customers, Tesco’s customer service channels remain open to help resolve issues and answer questions related to the update process.
