Major UK supermarket chains have announced steep price reductions on essential vegetables for Easter Sunday roasts, bringing several items down to just 15p, as part of their seasonal promotions targeting the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

This move comes amid rising food costs and growing consumer demand for affordable options during festive periods. Traditional roast dinners remain a staple of British Easter celebrations, and supermarkets are responding with aggressive discounts to attract early shoppers.

According to a report by The Mirror, Lidl, Aldi, and Sainsbury’s have already confirmed their participation in this pricing campaign, with offers set to roll out between April 15 and April 20.

Lidl Leads With Early Discounts Starting April 15

Lidl was the first retailer to announce its offers, launching a new round of Pick of the Week deals on April 15. These include :

  • Carrots (1kg) – 15p
  • White Potatoes (2kg) – 15p
  • Green Beans (220g) – 15p
  • Swede (per item) – 15p
  • Parsnips (500g) – 15p
  • Spring Onions (per bunch) – 15p

The promotion aligns with the supermarket chain’s typical approach of offering seasonal staples at reduced prices to drive footfall during high-demand periods. No loyalty scheme is required to access these deals.

Aldi Responds With High-Percentage Savings

Shortly after Lidl’s announcement, Aldi introduced its Super Six promotion, also starting April 15, featuring significant markdowns on similar products:

  • Nature’s Pick White Potatoes (2kg) – 15p, down from £1.35 (saving 89%)
  • Nature’s Pick Carrots (1kg) – 15p, down from 69p (saving 78%)
  • Nature’s Pick Broccoli (360g) – 15p, down from 79p (saving 81%)
  • Nature’s Pick Spring Onions (100g) – 15p, down from 69p (saving 78%)
  • Nature’s Pick Loose Garlic (each) – 15p, down from 37p (saving 59%)
  • Nature’s Pick Cucumber (each) – 59p, down from 89p (saving 34%)

As with Lidl, Aldi’s discounts are available to all customers, with no loyalty card or app registration required.

Sainsbury’s Offers Exclusive Deals for Nectar Card Members

Sainsbury’s joined the pricing competition shortly afterward, announcing that from April 16 to April 20, several key vegetables would be available for just 15p. However, the offer is exclusive to Nectar Card holders :

  • by Sainsbury’s British White Potatoes (2kg)15p
  • by Sainsbury’s British Parsnips (500g)15p
  • by Sainsbury’s British Swede (each)15p
  • by Sainsbury’s British Carrots (1kg)15p

To access these discounts, customers must be members of the Nectar loyalty program. Registration is free and can be completed by downloading the Nectar app on a smartphone.

Additionally, Sainsbury’s is offering up to 50% off selected Easter main courses, available immediately.

While Lidl, Aldi, and Sainsbury’s have now confirmed their seasonal offers, Asda, Morrisons, and Tesco have not yet released any public statements about Easter-specific price reductions. Given prior years’ patterns, it is anticipated that these retailers may announce similar deals in the days leading up to the holiday.

Demand Expected to Surge Ahead of Bank Holiday Weekend

All three confirmed supermarkets have stated that their offers are available while stocks last, and early shoppers are likely to benefit the most. These promotions follow a trend established in recent years where grocery retailers compete to provide seasonal essentials at dramatically reduced prices.

The emphasis on traditional Sunday roast vegetables reflects both customer expectations and the continued popularity of home-cooked Easter meals in the UK.

With inflationary pressures still affecting food prices, such offers are positioned not only as promotional tools but also as cost-saving opportunities for households preparing for the long weekend.
