The UK is bracing for a significant snowstorm, as some regions are set to experience up to 68 hours of snow starting on March 28. WX Charts’ latest forecast shows that snow will begin to cover areas of Scotland, including the Highlands, by 3 am.

The snowstorm may continue through the weekend, affecting much of Scotland. According to Yahoo, the impact could be felt across several regions, with weather experts keeping a close eye on this developing situation.

Where Will the Snow Hit Hardest?

The snowstorm is expected to start in the Highlands of Scotland, affecting areas like Perth and Kinross. By Saturday, March 29, larger parts of Scotland, including surrounding regions, could see significant snowfall.

The wintry conditions will likely intensify as the storm progresses, with areas of higher elevation experiencing the heaviest snowfall. James Madden of Exacta Weather has provided insights into the expected weather patterns.

He explained that while high pressure and sunshine could stabilize the weather in central and southern areas early in the week, the temperatures will turn colder starting Thursday, March 27, which is two days later than originally forecasted on March 25. He noted,

The influence of high pressure and sunshine could keep things more settled for most and particularly more so across some central and southern regions around midweek.

However, from around Thursday, March 27 and into next weekend will see the theme turning colder once again for many.

Could the Snow Reach Lower Levels?

The forecast suggests that while the snow will mostly affect higher altitudes, there is a possibility of wintry showers reaching lower levels in some regions. Madden clarified,

Thursday and Friday will also bring the first wintry showers in the far north and Scotland before transitioning into some other northern and western areas and potentially to some parts to the north and west of Ireland from coinciding weather fronts and significant low pressure areas should also bring some windy weather and rain elsewhere.

These conditions, however, are expected to be brief and transitional. The snowstorm could still cause disruptions, particularly in the Highlands and other higher-elevation areas.

Madden further explained that the majority of wintry and snow showers would be more likely to occur across higher regions, but

The possibility of something wintry at some lower levels at times in these parts, albeit brief or transitional.

How Long Will the Cold Weather Last?

The cold weather is expected to persist into the weekend, with wintry conditions continuing through Saturday, March 30.

The cool to cold weather is also likely to continue into the weekend Although any wintry weather will more than likely be confined to Scotland and the far north, this could still change somewhat between now and then, especially if we see any intensifications to the start of this wintry episode, and prior to things becoming potentially more settled and warmer from the south later in the weekend or early next week.” said Madden.

As the storm clears, the weather is predicted to become more settled, with temperatures rising in the south, potentially bringing a warmer start to the following week.

For now, however, the UK must prepare for extended periods of snow and colder conditions across northern and central regions.
