Sky to Shut Down Popular Channels in Major April TV Reshuffle

Millions of Sky viewers are about to see some familiar channels disappear while others change name or position entirely. From family entertainment to genre-specific movie slots, Sky’s April revamp is more than cosmetic. Behind the reshuffle is a push to streamline and theme content more directly. Several closures and temporary rebrands are already in effect, with more expected.

Sky TV customers face a major shake-up as the broadcaster initiates multiple channel closures and renames several others across its platform. The changes, already underway since April 22, are expected to continue throughout the month, affecting a wide range of channels including POP Max, Sky Family, and Sky Hits.

These modifications come as part of Sky’s routine realignment of its channel portfolio, aimed at streamlining viewer experience and accommodating evolving programming strategies. While some familiar channels are being retired, others will temporarily assume new identities to highlight themed content, particularly in the film and family entertainment categories.

POP Max Among Three Channels to Close Permanently

One of the most significant moves is the closure of POP Max, a children’s channel operated by Narrative Entertainment. According to Sky, this channel, which had already been removed from Freeview last year, will no longer be available on any of its platforms, including Sky Glass, Sky Stream and Sky Q

While POP Max disappears, several related channels are being repositioned within the electronic programme guide (EPG). On satellite, Tiny POP has moved from channel 618 to 615, Tiny POP+1 from 629 to 619, and POP+1 now occupies the 618 slot.

In parallel, the broadcaster has begun rolling out temporary rebrandings for a number of other channels. For instance, Sky Sci-Fi and Horror (Channel 311) has been rebranded as Sky Horror HD from April 22, offering genre-specific programming.

Channel Rebrands Target Seasonal and Franchise-Themed Content

Another trend evident in the recent reshuffle is the temporary rebranding of movie channels to align with specific franchises or themes. For example, Sky The Hobbit, initially located at channel 303, reverted to Sky Hits after the Easter period.

However, it is set to transform again into SkyIndianaJones/IndianaJonesHD starting Saturday, April 26, according to reporting by the Express.

Similarly, Sky Family (Channel 306) will undergo a brief identity change, becoming The Hobbit / The Hobbit HD from Friday, April 25.

This switch is expected to highlight high-performing family fantasy films before the channel returns to its original branding. Meanwhile, Sky Adventure is currently operating as Apocalyptic HD, further illustrating Sky’s strategy of using rebrands to spotlight curated content collections.

Sky has confirmed that these changes are part of its regular monthly updates, and more adjustments may follow towards the end of April. The company typically discloses programming changes only a week in advance, meaning additional updates may still be announced.
