OVO Energy has launched a new initiative aimed at helping customers lower their electricity bills this summer. Starting from May 5 until August 31, households that are part of Ovo’s rewards programme, Ovo Beyond, will be entitled to two hours of free electricity each week.
This move is part of a broader effort by energy providers to help consumers manage their energy consumption and reduce costs, especially during the high-demand summer months.
With household energy bills being a concern for many, Ovo’s offer presents an opportunity for users to optimise their energy usage and save money during this period.
OVO’s Free Electricity Initiative Explained
According to Ovo Energy, customers enrolled in Ovo Beyond will have the chance to select from a variety of time slots each week when they can use the two hours of free electricity. The available time slots include early morning, afternoon, and evening options, as well as a weekend Sunday slot.
This flexibility allows users to plan activities such as meal prep, laundry, or charging appliances without worrying about additional costs.
These sessions, designed to avoid peak energy usage periods, are part of Ovo’s effort to alleviate pressure on the national grid, particularly during times of high demand.
By encouraging users to consume energy outside of peak hours, Ovo hopes to help balance electricity supply and demand while rewarding customers for their participation in greener energy practices.

So whether people choose to get ahead on meal prep, make a dent in the laundry or charge up the iPad, we want to help cut costs by giving two free hours of electricity every week this summer.”
Comparing Ovo’s Offer with Other Providers
Ovo Energy is not alone in offering such initiatives. Other major energy providers have introduced similar schemes aimed at rewarding customers who use electricity during off-peak hours.
British Gas, for instance, offers half-price electricity on Sundays between 11 AM and 4 PM under its “Peak Save” scheme, which has already helped customers save millions. Similarly, Scottish Power’s Power Saver scheme provides a 50% discount on electricity between 11 AM and 4 PM on weekends.
While Ovo’s free electricity sessions are available to customers who sign up for Ovo Beyond, British Gas and Scottish Power’s schemes are also open to customers without requiring enrolment in a specific rewards programme.
These efforts by different energy suppliers are all geared towards shifting electricity consumption away from peak hours, which helps manage grid pressure and, in turn, can lower electricity bills for customers.
