The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a stark warning to UK consumers after identifying two widely sold children’s items as posing significant health and safety risks. The products, both originating from China, were removed from Amazon’s platform following regulatory intervention.

According to the OPSS, the Enjoy & Love Kids Trampoline and the A4R Water Beads have been officially recalled, with both flagged as “high-risk” items. Local Authority Trading Standards assisted in the investigations and were responsible for initiating the safety alerts.

Children’s Trampoline Fails Multiple UK Safety Regulations

The Enjoy & Love Kids Trampoline with Safety Net 55″ has been found to violate several aspects of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The OPSS reported that the trampoline lacks essential safety labelling and features that are necessary to ensure its safe use, particularly by children. According to the agency, the access zip is coloured black, making it difficult to distinguish from the rest of the black enclosure netting. This creates potential problems during emergencies when quick exit or entry may be required.

In addition to visibility concerns, the safety netting itself does not meet the minimum required height specifications. This shortfall increases the likelihood of children falling from the trampoline while using it. The government confirmed that the trampoline had been stopped at the border and rejected from further import into the UK. Amazon has since removed the product from its platform.

Local Authority Trading Standards issued the recall notification, reinforcing the message that parents or guardians in possession of this item should immediately cease its use. The trampoline’s failure to comply with established safety regulations has elevated its classification to a high-level safety risk, according to the government body.

Water Beads Identified as Choking Hazard to Children

In a separate alert, authorities have recalled A4R Water Beads due to their severe choking risk. The product, often used for sensory play or decoration, consists of brightly coloured gel beads that expand in size when hydrated. According to the OPSS, the beads, once fully expanded, can become lodged in a child’s airway if swallowed.

Packaged in a plastic bottle, the product has been judged non-compliant with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. The OPSS has labelled the beads as a major risk for small children, particularly because of their appearance, which may lead to accidental ingestion. Amazon removed the listing in response to the warning.

The recall notice urges parents and carers to stop using the water beads immediately and keep them well out of reach of young children. Consumers are advised to contact the original seller to request a refund or compensation, in line with standard product recall procedures.
