While Black Friday is synonymous with mass consumption, Octopus Energy is making a bold statement by encouraging customers to save instead of spend. With a range of enticing offers and a focus on sustainability, this campaign aims to reward existing customers and promote greener living.
What is Pink Friday and How Does it Work?
Pink Friday is a week-long event created by Octopus Energy to reward its Octoplus members. According to the company, the event kicks off on November 24 with daily “treats” that range from free Greggs snacks to cinema tickets, discounts on food deliveries, and even the chance to win an electric vehicle. These offers will be available exclusively through the Octopus Energy app or online accounts, and customers are encouraged to act quickly as supplies are limited.
Each day of the campaign offers a different reward. For example, customers can claim a free Greggs sausage roll on November 24, enjoy up to two free Odeon cinema tickets on November 26, and receive £8 off an UberEats order on November 28. The campaign’s grand prize involves a draw for two electric vehicles, an OMODA E5 Noble and a Jaecoo J5 Pure, both valued at over £28,000. To participate, customers must enter the prize draw via the Octopus app, with winners being drawn on November 28.
In addition to these treats, Octopus Energy is also promoting its commitment to sustainability with special offers on green technology. Customers can access exclusive discounts on solar panels, heat pumps, and electric vehicles through the Octopus Energy platform.
The Environmental and Customer-Centric Approach of Pink Friday
Octopus Energy’s Pink Friday initiative not only serves as a counterpoint to Black Friday’s consumerism but also highlights the company’s ongoing focus on environmental sustainability. By offering discounts on eco-friendly technology, such as electric vehicles and solar panels, Octopus Energy is reinforcing its commitment to a greener future.
The electric car giveaway, in particular, draws attention to the company’s collaboration with Octopus Electric Vehicles, a sister brand. Through the Pink Friday campaign, two lucky winners will drive away in one of two electric vehicles, complete with home charging installations or public charging credits.
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at Octopus Energy, explained that the initiative was designed to give back to customers while challenging the norms of Black Friday shopping. “Pink Friday is about fun, fairness and flipping the script on consumerism.” she said.
A New Era of Loyalty Schemes
Octopus Energy’s Octoplus programme, which is required to access Pink Friday’s deals, is fast gaining traction among energy customers. The loyalty scheme offers members the chance to earn “Octopoints” for activities such as submitting meter readings or referring friends. These points can be converted into bill credit, providing a further incentive for customers to engage with the service.
By turning Pink Friday into a celebration of customer rewards, Octopus Energy has created a platform that goes beyond just offering cheaper bills. It’s a smart way to build loyalty while simultaneously promoting sustainable practices. For existing customers, this campaign provides tangible rewards, with the added bonus of being able to contribute to a greener future.
As the event runs through the end of November and into December, Pink Friday stands as a clear example of how companies can embrace environmental responsibility while enhancing customer engagement. Whether it’s through rewarding loyalty with free gifts or promoting green energy options, Octopus Energy has found a way to make this period of consumer frenzy feel a bit more meaningful.
