Transport for West Midlands announces updates to bus stops in Birmingham city centre as part of the Eastside Metro extension, starting 5 January 2025. Passengers are urged to check their routes to adapt to the new stops and timetables.

Major updates reshape Birmingham’s city centre transit

Starting Monday, Birmingham city centre commuters will experience a significant reorganisation of bus routes and stops as part of a large-scale infrastructure project. The updates, orchestrated by Transport for West Midlands (TFWM), aim to accommodate the ongoing Eastside Metro extension. These changes include the addition of new bus stops, the relocation of several existing ones, and adjusted timetables to streamline transit operations.

These changes, which are a result of the city center’s rapid expansion, are indicative of larger initiatives to combine public transit with urban renewal. However, passengers are advised to become acquainted with the changes to guarantee smooth travel, as they may cause temporary discomfort.

New Bus Stops Unveiled on Corporation Street and Albert Street

The introduction of new bus stops on Corporation Street and Albert Street is among the most notable changes. Services 33, 51, 907, and others will now stop on Corporation Street opposite the iconic Square Peg pub. Meanwhile, Albert Street will host two new stops: one at its north end for services such as 23, 24, and 822, and another at its south end for services 934, 935, and 937.

Other services, including 2, 3, and 4A, will see their stops shifted along Moor Street Queensway to accommodate growing passenger demand in key areas like Primark and the Curzon Street development. Such adjustments are designed to offer more convenient access to major landmarks while facilitating smoother connections to other transit modes.

Revised Timetables and Relocated Stops Spark Passenger Caution

In addition to stop relocations, bus timetables will be adjusted starting January 5. Passengers travelling to and from Walsall will experience the most significant changes, with outbound buses now departing from Corporation Street instead of Priory Queensway. Inbound services will also see adjustments, including drop-offs at different locations.

TFWM has urged passengers to consult updated timetables available on their official website to avoid potential delays or confusion. The authority highlights that these modifications align with the city’s broader strategy to enhance public transport efficiency and support its commitment to reducing urban congestion.
