Nationwide, the UK’s largest building society, has unveiled a new bonus scheme for students opening its FlexStudent account, offering up to £280 in incentives. The financial benefits include cashback, vouchers, and interest-free overdrafts, all aimed at easing the financial burden on students.

Starting from July 1, 2025, the popular FlexStudent account is back with even more attractive features. With an increased bonus offer, Nationwide hopes to continue its strong appeal to the student demographic, which helped it dominate the student current account market last year.

Key Benefits for Students Opening FlexStudent Accounts

Nationwide’s new offer for students includes a £100 cashback when the account is credited with at least £500. Additionally, new customers will be eligible for £120 worth of Just Eat vouchers, distributed over the course of the first year.

The perks don’t end there—students can also earn up to £40 in Just Eat vouchers by referring friends, with each successful referral earning them £20. The FlexStudent account also includes significant financial flexibility. Students can benefit from interest-free overdrafts up to £3,000, with limits increasing year by year.

According to Nationwide, first-year students can access up to £1,000, second-year students can access £2,000, and third-year students are eligible for the full £3,000 overdraft. These overdrafts are fee-free, allowing students to manage their finances without worrying about accruing additional charges.

Furthermore, Nationwide’s commission-free purchases and withdrawals abroad offer students peace of mind while studying or travelling internationally, ensuring they avoid foreign transaction fees that often add up during trips.

Aimed at Easing Student Life

The FlexStudent account is designed with students in mind, providing tailored financial products to address the unique challenges they face while managing money away from home.

Tom Riley, Director of Retail Products at Nationwide, commented, “Students loved this offer last year, in fact the account attracted more than a quarter of the student current account market.”

He further explained that this year’s enhancements reflect Nationwide’s commitment to supporting students during a pivotal time in their lives—transitioning to university life, where financial independence becomes a priority.

Riley added, “We hope our cashback offer, Just Eat collaboration and referral scheme helps make their first year that little bit easier. Combined with the interest-free, fee-free arranged overdraft and commission-free usage abroad, we’re doing what we can to help make university life as simple and fun as possible.”
