Customers of Nationwide Building Society are eagerly waiting to find out whether they will receive the Fairer Share Payment bonus again in 2025. This bonus has previously been awarded to millions of members as part of Nationwide’s commitment to sharing profits with its customers.

The decision on the 2025 payment will be made by the building society’s board and announced alongside its full-year financial results on May 29. According to sources like DevonLive, Nationwide has not disclosed many details about the potential bonus at this stage. Members can expect an official update when the financial results are released later this spring.

Background on the Fairer Share Payment

In 2024, around 4 million members received a bonus payment of approximately £100 through the Fairer Share scheme. This initiative is designed to share the building society’s profits with customers who maintain current accounts, savings accounts, or mortgages with Nationwide. The payment was made in June 2024.

The Fairer Share Payment rewards members who engage with Nationwide for everyday banking as well as holding savings or mortgage products. According to Nationwide’s website,

The Fairer Share Payment is our way of rewarding those members who choose us for their everyday banking as well as having savings or a mortgage with us.

Eligibility criteria for the 2024 payment included having a current account, savings account, or residential mortgage with Nationwide, alongside other requirements not detailed publicly.

Additional Payments Linked to Virgin Money Acquisition

Following Nationwide’s acquisition of Virgin Money, over 12 million members benefited from a separate £50 courtesy payment. These payments have been completed either by direct bank transfer or by cheque sent through the mail.

Nationwide clarified in response to a customer query that,

The cheque can be paid into another current account as long as the account is in your name.

This allows beneficiaries some flexibility in depositing the payment.

Eligibility Requirements for Recent Payments

To qualify for the £50 payment related to the Virgin Money acquisition, customers had to be members as of September 30, 2024, and maintain their membership until the payment is issued.

Additionally, customers were required to meet at least one of the following criteria within the 12 months leading up to the end of September 2024:

  • Perform at least one qualifying transaction on a Nationwide current or savings account
  • Hold a total balance of £100 or more in one or more Nationwide current and savings accounts
  • Owe at least £100 on one or more Nationwide residential mortgages
