The Met Office has issued warnings for significant changes in the UK’s weather, with temperatures set to plummet starting Monday, October 27. According to weather maps from WXCharts, based on data provided by the Met Office, freezing conditions will affect large parts of the country, especially in northern regions.
The North Pennines is expected to experience the most severe cold, with temperatures dipping to -2°C. Several other areas in northern England and the Midlands will also face colder-than-usual temperatures, marking the arrival of an early cold snap. This sudden shift could lead to disruptions in daily life and travel.
Freeze Expected in the North as Temperatures Hit -2°C
The latest weather forecasts predict a significant temperature dip starting Monday, October 27, with -2°C expected in the North Pennines. Other northern counties, including Northumberland, Durham, and North Yorkshire, will likely experience freezing temperatures as well.
The colder conditions will not be confined to the far north; areas like Greater Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent may also see their temperatures drop to 0°C, a noticeable chill compared to the relatively mild conditions of late October.

In the Midlands, temperatures are forecast to hover between 0°C and 1°C, while regions in the South West, such as Cornwall and Devon, are expected to stay slightly warmer, with temperatures around 3°C. These significant shifts in temperature mark the first real signs of winter, and the Met Office warns that these cold conditions could last well into the following week.
The Met Office also reports that unsettled weather patterns will dominate across the UK until the end of the month. A period of heavy rain, strong winds, and low pressure systems is forecast to cross the UK later next week. By the end of the month, cooler and more showery conditions are expected to persist, especially in the North.
Coldest Counties and Areas to Watch
As cold weather sets in across the UK, the Met Office highlights a list of counties most likely to see temperatures drop to 0°C or below. The coldest counties on October 27 include:
- Northumberland
- Durham
- North Yorkshire
- West Yorkshire
- Cumbria
- Greater Manchester
- Lancashire
- Staffordshire
- Leicestershire
- Northamptonshire
These areas, particularly in the north and midlands, will feel the full brunt of the cold spell. The Met Office notes that the coolest weather will likely be found in the North in the early part of next week. With rain expected to persist, these cold temperatures may be coupled with wet and windy conditions, making the situation even more uncomfortable.

According to Mirror, a yellow warning for rain has also been issued for Northern Ireland, where 20-30 mm of rain is expected to accumulate, and up to 100 mm in the Mourne Mountains. The Met Office anticipates this heavy rain to cause flooding, travel disruptions, and possible power outages in some areas.
