Marks & Spencer has issued an urgent recall of its Milk Chocolate Honeycomb, following the identification of a potential labelling issue that may affect a specific production batch. According to information first reported by The Mirror, the retailer has taken precautionary steps after discovering that a limited number of packs might contain an undeclared ingredient.

The product in question is sold in 120g packs and carries the lot number 5242 with a best before date of May 12, 2026. The company has confirmed that the measure was taken “in the abundance of caution” and applies only to this specific batch.

Urgent Action Taken After Allergen Mislabeling

The popular Milk Chocolate Honeycomb snack has been pulled from shelves after a quality control issue revealed that some units might contain peanuts that are not listed on the product label. For individuals with a peanut allergy, this omission could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.

A Marks & Spencer spokesperson stated:

Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously.

The company emphasized that only 120g packs of the specified batch are impacted and no other M&S products are involved in this recall.

To ensure consumer protection, Marks & Spencer is urging customers who purchased the affected product to return it to their nearest store for a full refund. Customers are not required to present a receipt. Those in need of assistance are advised to call the official customer support number at 03330 148555.

FSA Advisory And Expanded Communication Measures

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a formal recall alert regarding the incident, which includes several clear directives. In its statement, the agency said:

Marks & Spencer is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

Point-of-sale notices are typically placed in physical stores near where the recalled item was sold and serve to inform shoppers of the health risk and refund procedure. The FSA also advised:

If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund. For more information, please contact Marks & Spencer on 03330 148555.

This statement not only reinforces the recall but also underlines the wider coordination between regulatory bodies, retailers, and allergy organizations to ensure that at-risk individuals are informed promptly.

Second Recall Raises Broader Allergy Concerns

The Marks & Spencer incident comes on the heels of a similar recall involving Aldi. The budget supermarket chain recalled certain tubs of Gianni’s Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream due to the presence of undeclared wheat (gluten) — an allergen not mentioned on the label. The affected products are sold in 500ml tubs with a best before date of August 14, 2027.

According to the Food Standards Agency, the presence of gluten in this product represents

“A possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease or an allergy or intolerance to wheat.”

The failure to declare wheat on the label is considered a significant lapse in allergen control, especially for individuals with strict dietary restrictions.
